DADAAB, Kenya Refugee Barwago Mohamud huddles silently beneath a few blankets stretched over sticks at night, fearing for her life after a neighbor was raped, and a naked woman who had been kidnapped and gang-raped for three days in front of her terrified children was delivered to the medical tent next door.
Only a few hundred feet away stands a newly built camp with a police station, toilet blocks and schools. Neat thornbush fences in the camp separate residential areas for families to move into. But all the facilities are empty. The Kenyan government is refusing to open the new Ifo 2 facility as part of the world's biggest refugee camp, Dadaab, saying the desperate Somali refugees flowing into the country are a security risk.
But for the women and children who fled war and famine and are now forced to build their shelters farther and farther away from the center of the camps, the extension would be a refuge from the armed men who prowl the bush at night. Some may be deserters from Somali forces across the border; others are Kenyan bandits who rob and gang-rape the stream of refugees fleeing the famine in Somalia...

Yeah, no thanks. Media driven war/humanitarian effort turned out to be a disaster last time. All we did was provide al-Queda with terrorist training with our troops as the targets and delay the starvation death of a few people whom were doomed anyway. The military is not supposed to be a meals-on-wheels operation. Somalia is a crap hole and other than knocking off terrorists with drones and special operations, we need to just stay away.
Somalis are always fleeing famine. Has there ever been a time when they weren’t “fleeing famine?”
Coming soon to Amerika if Obama is re-elected.
“Somalis are always fleeing famine. Has there ever been a time when they werent fleeing famine”
I guess the piracy thing is not working out.
I was there the first go-round. We went in because the clan (gang) leaders were hoarding all the humanitarian food and using it for themselves and their own clan (gang)members. Horrible, dry country, we dug wells all over the country for the starving people in the little settlements and insured food distribution. Saw thousands of dead babies and emaciated adults. Now Al Queada has moved in and added another clan (gang) to the mix. None of the clans give a $hit about the people in the countryside. We lost some good men in a hellhole so some politicians could “feel good” for a few months and then we got the hell out of there. Now conditions are worse than before. Hope we don’t go back in so the bastards can snipe more of our brave soldiers.
They hate us.
We can help them and send them food and medicine and save them.
When we are done and we have saved many of them, they will thank Allah, blame us, and hate us still.
Screw ‘em.
Nothing good ever came out of Somalia, nothing good ever will.
For every one of them that dies, we have one less enemy.
For every dollar our profligate government doesn’t throw down that turd world rathole, we have two dollars less in overtaxation.
Wish them luck if you care, as for me... I simply do not care and wish Somalia would simply be swallowed up by the sea... But only after all of the useless Somalis that infest America were first repatriated.
Famine or Somalis?
I suppose that means the Western world will be taking in more Somalis.
In book Black Hawk Down, one trooper spoke of his amazement as a tiny Somali woman brazenly walked down the middle of the street, firing an AK *WHILE HOLDING A BABY*
She was doing it so casually —as if it were a hobby. She was not taking cover, or even varying her straight-forward pace.
Who can help them? Only THEY can help themselves.
Friggin’ Muzzies are starving but somehow they find the energy to rape every woman in sight.Let ‘em starve and die.
i’m surprised by all of the negative comments towards Somalia. Unfortunately I pretty much agree with them. I’m tired of it and I really just don’t care.
Yup.
How many are living here on welfare, damning America and praising Allah?
Aren't we the good humanitarians.
They would kill us all if they could.
They need a great leader like Nelson Mandella, Look at what he did for South Africa.
There has always been famine in Africa. The difference between now and 100 years ago is rigidly controlled borders. When there was a drought 100 years ago, the people simply picked up and moved to an area where there was plenty of rain. When the drought was over, the people went back.
