July 28, 2011 (by Asif Shamim) - An F-16C block 30 from 100 FS (#87-0296) sustained a hard landing after coming off the runway at Wittman Regional Airport during the AirVenture event at Oshkosh this morning.
The incident happened at 11.20h local time on the north runway at Wittman Regional Airport near the Warbirds area.
Information regarding the status of pilot has not been released, but was early reports indicate the pilot walked away and was taken for medical attention.
Bill Tregoning an eyewitness reported the following "It looked like the plane came off the edge of the runway going about 60 miles per hour," he said. "The front landing gear sunk into the soft ground because of the rain."
He said the front landing gear of the F-16 may have broken.
A board of enquiry will look into the accident

Link didn’t seem to work when I clicked on it. Here’s one more try: http://www.wpix.com/news/nationworld/witi-20110728-eaa-f16-incident,0,5934051.photogallery
Ya think?
Here's video of a vintage North American FJ4 doing the same thing just a little while later: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ub7PFQSQFkI
Looks like the SIB will have lots of pics to look at on this one. I’m also glad the plane didn’t turn over since the pilot elected not to punch out.
Looks like it broke off the pointy end too.
“early reports indicate the pilot walked away and was taken for medical attention”
Not only airframe damage, trashed the engine by injesting several cubic yards of sod while at full power.
Someone’s flight career just took a dump.

I am only a student pilot, but I will neverfly into Oshkosh for the EAA.
Well, not full power.
He was landing...
Still... yeah - the engine is probably trashed.
Seems he couldn't get it stopped - whether due to water on the runway, too short a runway, who knows...
What’s the deductible?
No worries. If pilot incompetence is determined, he can land a job at any number of govt agencies.
No problem, that'll buff right out.
And something tells me that a certain Alabama National Guard pilot will have lots and lots of one weekends a month and two weeks a year to dedicate to doing the buffing because he is no longer on the flight rotation roster...
Viewing his exhaust shows alot of flame still coming out. He couldn't have been in burner so I'm guessing FOD ingestion.
Code brown.
Look at the slide show, he did go to full power after leaving the runway, had full up elevator as well, he (or she) was trying to power out of it.
