Good morning gardeners. This past week here in East Central Mississippi has been great, weather wise. There have been numerous and very beneficial pop-up T-storms almost every day, which have helped keep the temperatures down and my garden watered.
I hope TS Don will give some relief to those of you in drought stricken Texas. Forecasts are for it to dissipate in about 36 to 48 hours after landfall.

I really like Twain’s short stories. I have a good friend that I went to high school and college with. After we were out in the real word and working for a few years, we would get together every so often; sitting at his kitchen table and read Twain’s short stories while drinking shots of tequila or scotch and laugh our butts off. Sounds real exciting right? But we had good laughs and a good time.
I hope you did not take offense at my ‘family’ comment, it was meant in jest about the amount of pickles you have put up.

That’s pretty amazing and I’m glad we don’t have those wild and crazy thunderstorms here in Benderville. I don’t know when our corn will be ready for picking but I hope it doesn’t come on all at once as there are 6 rows of 24 plants with 2 ears per stalk = unnnngh
I attended a political “thank you in advance” picnic for our Wisconsin recalls yesterday. Besides brats and burgers, they served roasted whole ears of corn dipped in butter. The corn had been in the field yesterday morning and eaten by yesterday afternoon. It was the most delicious corn I’ve ever eaten. Mmmm-mmm-good. Lucky me, they sent me home with 6 ears which I will re-heat for dinner.

This patch is a bi-color SH2 hybrid that I bought from Jung’s.
Now that IS high maintenance. I have mine painted in a color that matches my skin so that the chips don’t show!
Are those Mrs. Bender’s nails? They are very pretty, but radical for my day to day wear. As soon as I decide that I would paint them orange, I would decide that I needed to wear pink. So I just keep them natural.

You need to put a matt on that photo and enter it in the OPEN class at your local fair.

I have seen sections of sugar cane fields flattened by T-storms. Strange looking, one area would be flattened and right next to it no damage. It was said to be micro bursts.
That is what my corn looks like, how do you know when it is ready to pick. This is my first corn growing experience.
Nice potatoes.... In South FL I plant 10 lbs of seed potatoes and get 6 lbs of potatoes!

Just peel the husk back before picking the ear. Don’t wait too long unless you like your corn over mature. We prefer them a little immature and not filled out to the tip, but different strokes for different folks...
Thank you for mentioning the potato! Since Lady Bender has been going to Miss Terry the Nail Masochist she has had only one failure and work is her middle name. Today she mowed several thousand Sq Feet of lawn with her walk behind mower, then she weeded in the garden, moved sprinklers on a section of lawn in back fed her dog and watched me dig those potatoes for our daughter and family. We buy those latex gloves at Costco in 2 sizes...
