When I was a kid I used to tape model rocket motors to lawn darts- impressive against derelict automobile targets-!!
the best we did was throw firecrackers at each other . sometimes we would stick them in apples but you had to throw them before the crackers got wet . lots of flying applecider
Garbage in, garbage out. Manufacturers, be it here or overseas simply make what the local marketers and design teams tell them to make.
I was looking for a picture of Dora one day and came across this toy. A little odd shaped for a child's toy.
We shot bottle rockets at each other; the ‘rocket motor lawn darts’ were launched at non-living targets.

I remember looking out the window when LittleBlonde was about 8 and seeing her throw lawn darts in the air and dodge them as they came back down.
Coincidentally, the same day we decided we probably weren’t going to need a college fund for that one.
I grew up on an island. In the summer your Mom would kick you out of the house early, and you were armed with bathing suit, flip flops, and a towel. Off we marched, down the beach, and we stayed there ALL day (lunch was an ice cream from the truck that came around, and 10 cents did the trick). There were no life guards, no parents, no baby sitters... There was no sun screen, life jackets, drownings or lawsuits.
Winter was different and there were rules! When Mom said you had to go out and play, but said you couldn't go down the beach , you knew:
a) There was ICE!
b) Everyone would be there!
c) Put on your best boots (no galoshes)
And we would travel and play on the ice. No one froze, fell in, and there were no drownings or lawsuits. We weren’t stupid, just kids allowed to be kids, and use our own brains and instincts.
We played ball at the school yard, army, cowboys and indians in back yards and empty lots. We used toy guns, tents, cardboard boxes, and snow. We roller skated (had to have a skate key). We made go-carts, forts, and tree houses, and we ice skated. All with no parents, chaperone's, baby sitters, insurance, safety restrictions... And when we broke a bone or needed stitches, no one sued or was branded neglectful. And not one of us grew up to be a mass murderer. Hmmmm...
I was born and raised where I still live: Da Bronx - New York, and I love it still.
They probably outsourced the design of toys also. You must admit, some of those would never have been designed by an American who was not an isolated hermit.
I enjoyed reading that.
My childhood was a wonderland of open doors.
My parents owned and worked in a business in a small town.
If I fell off my bike and skinned my knee, I sucked it up and went home for a band aid.
I never got the chance to do what my (older) young brothers did in Wisconsin on the river... snagging an iceberg with a treble hook, pulling it to shore ... hopping on and riding it down river... then casting to shore and pulling it up to get off..... (Mom WAS horrified when she heard about that....)
Of course... it’s a different world today and there are hazards for kids.
Unnatural hazards.
LOL! How do you NOT see the impropriety there?
You said it!
Uh, Roger, kids SHOULD be afraid of homeless people. As should most adults. It isn't the smell, or poverty, it's the tendency toward crime and violence.
That’s what I was looking for when I saw the post! I had me some of those, and I’m still wondering why my parents bought them for me..... :-/
I have a NIB, unpunched copy of the R&S Log Game. True story.
Thanks!
