Lisa Nowak, a former NASA astronaut whose 2007 arrest made national news, has officially retired from the U.S. Navy with an "other than honorable" discharge, officials said Thursday.

In a statement, Assistant Secretary of Navy Juan Garcia said that Nowak "demonstrated a complete disregard for the well-being" of romantic rival Air Force Capt. Colleen Shipman.

Authorities said Nowak drove nonstop from Texas to Orlando, confronting Shipman, then the girlfriend of Nowak's former lover, at Orlando International Airport on Feb. 5, 2007.

She’ll retire as a full CAPT (O-6) won’t she? With all the bennies?

She got in 20 years before she cracked up. It was recommended that she be demoted to commander.

As much as I would like to continue this well-mannered exchange, I feel that, to do so, would be at the expense of my

It's been well played, and it would be a shame for one of us to

over the other on such a topic.

the “other than honorable” discharge may impact eligibility for VA benefits.

What VA benefits does a military retiree get? I can't think of any.

Indeed, it has been invigorating, but there are other pressing matters to which I must now

(But I am surprised to learn that there are so many brands of adult diaper. )

Have a blessed day.

No - the Navy took rank away from her. She is going to retire as an 0-5.

"After reviewing all of the evidence presented to me, including CAPT Nowak's pleas in civilian court, the witness testimony provided to the board of inquiry, the harm she inflicted upon an innocent victim, as well as the more than 20 years of service of CAPT Nowak, I have approved the retirement of CAPT Nowak in paygrade O-5 with an overall characterization of service as Other Than Honorable. CAPT Nowak's conduct fell well short of that expected of senior officers in our Navy and demonstrated a complete disregard for the well-being of a fellow service member."

I thought she was a realy cutie when she was younger.

Hey, give her a break! This kind of thing has been going on a long time. Even Shakespeare said, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!" She just ran into a male astronaut heartbreaker. Was he punished? No! He is probably still out there screwing all the other female military personnel

I am kidding, of course. It is the responsibility of people like you to help keep the strain pure. I wish more were like you, especially policemen.

It’s outrageous that she got less than a dismissal.
