The U.S. Army launched its new $150 million High Altitude Long Endurance airship in Akron Wednesday only to watch it come down in some Pennsylvania woods just hours later.
According to Akron's Fox 8, the solar powered blimp went down in Greene County, about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh.
Intended to provide satellite type communications and surveillance above the Jet Stream, the ship hit 32,000 feet when an "anomaly" forced operators to abort the flight.

You're way off base, buddy. MSNBC has already identified the real culprits behind this fiasco: Palin and the Tea Party.

Sorry guys, I want photos of the Polish airship that rammed all those high rise buildings...and lived to tell about it!
LOL!
There were numerous reports of unknown lights in the sky around Akron last night. There were several crafts traveling at an unbelievable rate of speed and one of them is said to have crashed.
Yeah,...a balloon....sure it is. And all those flights last night to and from Akron to Wright Pat were ‘just routine’ right? And the bodies that were recovered are just dummies...right?
From the pics, it looks like they used the old Goodyear Zeppelin shed in Akron. My dad worked there in the early ‘30s. Think that they built the Akron and the Macon there!
Another great success for solar power.
Near Kecksburg? Hmmmmm
$150 million?
Really?
Sheesh.
They forgot to make a plan for when the sun goes behind a cloud.
Thud.
$150 million?
Really?
Sheesh.
“Long Endurance” just isn’t what it used to be.
“I read about the Polish terrorists who hi-jacked a blimp outside of New York City and have so far rammed 25 high rise buildings!”
Hey ... I’m Polish and was offended by this. It was 42, not a mere 25!
LOL — They aren’t fooling me with this UFO Coverup story....
lol... they keep bouncing off?
Dry gulched em at 32,000’, eh? Not bad shootin’ if ya axed me.
Lockheed-Martin? Humph. Same people that can’t get the F-35 done either on time or on budget or to specifications? Same people that built the WAAAAAY over budget F-22 that we can’t afford but only a few of? Same people who built the F-22 that is now grounded because the pilots are being poisoned by something in the life support system air?
Same ones?
Maybe they aren’t a very good defense contractor or just stick to building C-130s.
Looks like their glory days of building things like SR-71, U-2 and such are behind them.
OBOGS built by Honeywell.
