She was a pretty good and very talented blues singer who died, as so many blues musicians have, of a drug/alcohol overdose, it seems. She was good

Her voice was indeed on the order of Dinah Washington or Sarah Vaughan. Good comparison.

A pretentious pseudo soul singer with exaggerated soulifying (I forget the right term for these vocal gymnastics), like so many annoying black chick singers.

So, has the cause of death been officially announced or determined?

It hasn't. Does it mean she might still be alive?

Even if you are not impressed with comedian Russell Brand, he was a fellow addict and he knew Amy. He has written a brilliant tribute to her and description of addiction. It’s worth a read. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/jul/24/russell-brand-amy-winehouse-woman

I must admit, I don't "get" Russell Brand, but I was very touched by what he wrote. I saw a picture where he was hugging Amy, and I could see in his face the real pain of knowing what she was going through, and probably realizing that the odds were against her.

Those were probably the first nice pictures of her I've ever seen.
Then again, the only place I'd seen her before was probably on Page Six (which is actually printed on page 12, go figure).

Good post. May explain why such a small percentage of users actually help pay the bills.

Ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine.

I saw quotes morning from friends saying they expected to hear that bad ecstasy coupled with alcohol did her in. They actually said that she could do as much cocaine as she wanted and it wouldn’t hurt her. Essentially she was “good at it.”

I have been meaning to ask, who was Amy Winehouse?”

And why should anybody care? (those who think she had “talent” also probably think she was “hot”)

She was worth several million pounds...after all the drugs she has bought. Can you imagine how much she spent over the years?

I hate to see anyone die, but I have no sympathy for dead drug addicts . . . especially those who's "talent" has enabled them to be millionaires at a very young age and who then turn to drugs.

One more dead drug addict who's a sure slam dunk to be in the R&R Hall of Fame, home to probably over 50% of dead drug addicts.

I am constantly amazed at how celebutard/athletes waste their money. Look at Nicholas Cage, he is still making big movies and he had to sell his mansion. What is he spending his money on??

(the decor of the house was described as fratboy bordello, which says a lot about his maturity level I think)

She probably was getting better. Many times when addicts slip they go back to doing what they did before in the amount they did before and thier bodies just can’t handle it since their tolerance is much lower....

Very true. Waiting to hear if the reports she went on a heroin/drinking/ecstasy bender are true... such a shame.

In anycase, if anyone lives their life under the microscope of the world they will go nuts.

True enough. Now, smile for the security cameras...(they aren't everywhere--yet).

Plenty, but this one hit wonder wasn’t it. She was the poster child for the big money machine. Give her some imaginary awards, parade her around the media, and cash in.
Her “hit” album had mediocre sales, and her second one was a flop. That is the result of no talent. Defend her all you want...the facts speak for themselves.

ecstasy can’t be that bad
I think Pelosi is on it 24/7/365
I assume they sell it in vending machines in SF

Plenty---elaborate.

Actually, I only knew her as a druggie. I had never heard her sing until she died and somebody posted a link to Utube and I listened to it out of curiosity.

I was pleasantly surprised! I guess I thought she was a rocker...she actually sang...was a "jazz singer." Because of the publicized drug use, I assumed she was a screamer like Joplin.

Tony Bennet had nice things to say about Amy; she sang with him on his album. I think I'll trust his opinion about her talent over yours.
