There are some things in this world that will never be forgotten, this week’s 40th anniversary of the moon landing for one. But Moore’s Law and our ever-increasing quest for simpler, smaller, faster and better widgets and thingamabobs will always ensure that some of the technology we grew up with will not be passed down the line to the next generation of geeks.
That is, of course, unless we tell them all about the good old days of modems and typewriters, slide rules and encyclopedias …

I was a child/preteen in the 80s (I turned 13 in 1990) and this was still common but just starting to be replaced by the “stay inside in the A/C and play Nintendo/Atari” mindset. Granted I was never an active kid even back then...I had the coordination of a blind paraplegic, so sports just frustrated me.
I do know they have DJ’s at least at one station, WONE 97.5 in Akron, OH. I went to school with the evening drive-time DJ.
I should ask her if she actually chooses the music and plays it or if she just talks between songs a little.

My wife and I were driving by a home being built the other day, and I commented "there's a white guy up there" as we saw the construction crew...perhaps it's part of the economic circumstances we're in.
How about when the iceman came down the street in a horse drawn wagon selling blocks of ice for your icebox?

A couple of years ago I was working on a fundraiser with some students, and we were unloading my ‘78 F150. While we were getting stuff out of the cab, one of the students pointed at the radio and said, “What’s that?” He’d never seen a car with anything other than a CD player....
We still get milk delivery - 20 miles from “town”.

Personally, I was a Tom Swift person.
But the Hardy Boys books are still around. I know a kid (well, he's 20-something now) who had a Hardy Boys book to read as an English class assignment in high school.
Which brings up another thing that kids might never know...
Schools in which you actually learn to read, write, and do math.
I still carry my K&E in my glovebox and use it.
Well, where I live in the deep South you see a lot of white people still laboring at construction sites and even doing landscaping.

My Grampa’s car (47 Chevy) had a starter switch (akin to the dimmer switch) under the accelerator pedal and you had to pull the choke knob out and press the accelerator pedal all the way down to start the engine.
Yes! And ashtrays!
