If you're like us, you've probably been holding your breath in anticipation since Commodore USA announced its replica of the famous C64. It promised a keyboard PC that duplicated the original's retro-beige finish, with an Atom CPU and an NVIDIA Ion graphics card under the hood. But despite numerous announcements, and even after a cross-promotion with Tron: Legacy, they've yet to ship any products. The latest word from the company has pre-orders shipping next week, in five different varieties, from a barebones chassis and card reader to the C64x Ultimate an $895 machine that includes 1TB hard drive and a Blu-ray player. If you haven't been teased enough over the past year of delays, hit the video after the break for more preview images.
;^)
Guess I'm not like them.
I like the new PCs/Apples with everything in the monitor. Very clean and modern.
BTW: I had Atari STs way back when.
Nope, mostly played M.U.L.E and Silent Service (man, I miss those games)
M.U.L.E. was awesome along with Impossible Mission.
I also had an Amiga after my ST. Finally broke down and got a PC when the first Pentium came out. Since I was in the military and they had nothing but PCs I had to learn to use them.
Ping to the man with a few old boxes in the attic...
Something had me thinking about Silent Service just the other day. Great game. I also wasted hours playing Gunship, the AH-64 sim. Raid on Bungeling Bay was fun, too. And of course, the original (C64 version) Castle Wolfenstein.
Basically, they took an idea from one of the micro-ITX webforums (where they stuff those tiny motherboards into everything from Barbie Corvettes to USGI ammo cans) and commercialized it.
And who now has the space in his new basement to set them up...
Impossible Mission...stay awhile, stayyyyy forever.
A new one would look good, in the basement, eh?
You might need a few more desks, though....
I’d love one for my basement, and the $900 price tag aint too bad... the problem is... I’d have to spend $4,000 to buy wood paneling and avocado or burnt orange shag carpet to make it complete.
I actually never had a C64. My involvement with Commodore, both personally and then professionally, was the Amiga. I bought my Amiga 1000 in 1986 and was given the 2000 and 3000 when I worked for them.
ohh.... well....never mind....
But it’d still be cool, right?
The 6502 lives on! Thanks Signalman.
