LOS ANGELES, (AP) -- The man who created "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch" has died.
Great niece Robin Randall says Sherwood Schwartz died at 4 a.m. Tuesday. He was 94.
Schwartz was a veteran comedy writer when he created two of TV's best-remembered sitcoms in the 1960s. Over the years, they have inspired parodies, spinoffs and countless stand-up comedy jokes.

How difficult would it have been for her to at least chuckle at it once in a while.
I heard her on a radio show and she was adamant about not talking about GI. After about ten minutes the host just thanked her for coming, because EVERY caller wanted to talk about GI and she did not. So he pretty much kicked her off the show. Very funny.
Bitch did not come close to describing her attitude.
I am sure there were plenty of Mary Ann “sins” confessed every friday afternoon at the local catholic school confessional.
Mary Ann - wholesome, practical, yet pretty
Ginger - glamorous, statuesque, very talented (funny, she sings, she acts, she dances)
But Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) is the smartest of them all. She had in her contract (I read somewhere) that she got money from the reruns - and no one else did. She was the only one of the actors that got rich off Gilligan's Island.
Take that - Mr. Howell!
I never thought of Dawn Wells as particularly intelligent, in fact I don’t think she is but goodness gracious, God sure blessed her with a fine body and face.
MacGyver?
-PJ
MacGyver?
Yes, very similar to his amazing inventions!
>”Mary Ann was the one’’< Yup, damn right! Dawn Wells, yum!
There was also another Schwartz show called “It’s About Time”. Time traveling US astronauts who get stuck in the stone age with Joe E Ross. Also with another catchy Sherwood Schwartz theme song that explains the plot.
>>> If he were working in todays environment, he would be forced to include a positive gay character in every sitcom.
The Skipper and his “Little Buddy” went over your head? Ginger and Mary Ann lived together too, but they clearly were receptive to the opposite sex. The two boys though, kept things closer to home. Though they were certainly less flamboyant then Floyd the Barber or Gomer.
>>> What sin was Mary Ann?
Sinful cuteness?
>>> Which well known actress turned down that role before Tina got it? Or so I have read.
Jayne Mansfield, and honestly it was the biggest mistake of her life to turn it down. By then her movie career had pretty much died. She was a pretty good comic actress. Gilligan’s Island would have been her salvation. Instead to make a living she was forced into semi-striptease shows at nightclubs. Driving to one such engagement was how she was killed.
