Joe Buck would ‘happily step aside’ for Vin Scully in World Series

A few weeks back, we gave the initial nudge to the online petition requesting that legendary announcer Vin Scully replace Joe Buck in the broadcast booth during this fall's World Series...

How far has this petition gone? Far enough to reach the attention of Buck himself. Not only does the FOX Sports broadcaster like the idea, he'd be willing to step aside from his first World Series since 1996 if the 83-year-old Scully wants one last victory lap...

I'm a Vin Scully fan, but I thought the petition was in poor taste. However, if Joe Buck is willing to go along with it, good.

Ernie Harwell was the only broadcaster ever traded for a player. In 1948 the Brooklyn Dodgers traded a catcher to the Atlanta Crackers in return for Harwell.

Can Vin stay until Buck’s contract is up?

Best announcers in my lifetime (IMHO):

Vin Scully

Jack Buck

Curt Gowdy

Ken Coleman

Ned Martin

Skip Carey

Marty Brenneman

I would put Curt Gowdy at the top of your list. And add Joe Morgan.

Anyone could do a better job than Joe Buck. He actually makes baseball seem more boring than it already is.

I’d take Joe’s daddy Jack over Vin Scully.

Jack Buck, via his understated, and highly descriptive style, was a master at conveying the tension inherent in nearly every nuance of the game of baseball.

And add Joe Morgan.

I, um, er... :: deep breath :: respectfully disagree.

Prince was pretty much done by 1975, when I was 12. I might have heard him once or twice.

Phil Rizzuto
The Scooter? Best? He was best all right ... at announcing friends' birthdays and eating canoles!
You never heard Mel Allen or Red Barber?
