Police believe the grenade a child found near a creek was live.
An eleven year old boy made a surprising discovery while out at a creek in Lampasas.
He found what police believe was a live grenade near the 4th Street Bridge along Sulphur Creek just after 7p.m.
According to Lampasas police, the child picked up the grenade before alerting his parents who called police.
Fort Hood's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called in to handle the grenade.
Officers say it's not clear how long the grenade had been there, but judging from the amount of rust and dirt on it, they say it seems to have been a long time.
2nd grenade story in a couple of days

What nation and state does this story take place in?
Where in the world is Lampassas?

Where in the world is Lampassas?
Seeing they ID’d Fort Hood I would suggest that it is a city in Texas...............
Some kids get all the cool toys.
> Where in the world is Lampassas?
That would be TEXAS.
About half the distance to Goldthwaite from Austin.
WHAT? You don’t know where Lampassas is?! Man, eeeeeverybody knows where Lampassas is, get with it, it’s only the freakin’ center of the UNIVERSE! I think it even has a bus station! /s
I demand we pass a law banning live grenades! It’s for the children!
I read that reference to the EOD guys. Still, this could have occurred in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana.
My point as you think I know, is that we should all provide City and State in our excerpts.
Not to pick on this FReeper, ‘cuz I forget to do it from time to time. IT’d just be nice to provide the geo-reference.
I caught that two.
Lampasas Texas, Nice Town I was just there this weekend for thier annual Spring HO festivities.
We weren’t too far from the 4th street bridge this weekend
hmmmm....
Story on our local Corpus Christi TEXAS news last night about someone trying to sell a grenade at a gun show. The local LEO’s took it out and blew it up, but weren’t sure if it was live. ???? Couldn’t they have pulled the pin (remotely) before setting off their ordinance?
I’m just upset that I didn’t know there was a gun show.
You really gotta be careful with grenades. [duh!] They have chemical fuses and unless you know the provenance of the ordance, anything can happen. I suggest leaving the disposal of unknown ordance to the experts.
Have you ever thrown a grenade by the way?

Moral. The moral of the story/s is: It don't do no good to fish with a dummy grenade.
Except for the grenades laying around...

Not nearly as well-kept as mine. Some folks just have no pride of ownership.
