That’s right. I posted my cat story above about them sneaking out, walking on the ledge 12 stories up without me knowing about it. I put a stop to it.
Another cat owner in the building was less fortunate. Her cat fell off the 13th floor balcony and landed on a lower balcony. It survived but had a broken jaw. Cats, especially young ones, are quite acrobatic but clueless about danger.
When I lay on the couch to watch tv, I've got one cat "perched" upon my arm and shoulder and the other "perched" upon my leg or hip.
Amazing how heavy a small ball of fur can become. Mine delights in following the cursor on the computer screen and sleeps on top of the narrow metal frame that is around the bathroom shower door.
Sometimes a short fall can prevent a cat from getting their legs under them in time. HOWEVER, the myth that they always land on their feet is just that — a MYTH— and falling from a great height can still be, and often is, deadly. At the very least they can sustain severe and permanent injuries if they are fortunate enough to survive.

There is no contradiction with what I said, although it didn’t address the issue of cats not always landing on their feet. Here’s a vet’s view - which provides much more biological info on what happens when cats fall at different heights.
