"SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA follows the story of Luke Chisolm (Lucas Black), a talented young golfer set on making the pro tour. When his first big shot turns out to be a very public disaster, Luke escapes the pressures of the game and finds himself unexpectedly stranded in Utopia, Texas, home to eccentric rancher Johnny Crawford (Robert Duvall). But Johnny's more than meets the eye, and his profound ways of looking at life force Luke to question not only his past choices, but his direction for the future.
Based on David L. Cook's best-selling book Golf's Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia, SEVEN DAYS IN UTOPIA also stars Melissa Leo, Deborah Ann Woll, Brian Geraghty, Jerry Ferrera, Joseph Lyle Taylor, KJ Choi and Kathy Baker. The film is directed by Matthew Dean Russell from a script by Cook, Rob Levine, Russell and Sandra Thrift. The film was produced by Mark G. Mathis (Brick, Precious) and Jason M. Berman (The Dry Land)."
Will do, thanks!
Mabe shot locally? Utopia in well into the Texas Hill Country, my true home.
If it was just another Bagger Vance, I wouldn’t have bothered to post about it. ;o) The message in the book about eternal significance in a saving relationship with Jesus Christ puts all the golf (and all of our temporal pursuits) in perspective.
Yes it apparently was shot in Utopia TX - beautiful area.
Hey thanks for the heads up! I come to FR for my movie recs, since I can’t find it in me to give a dollar to Sodom...
On a related note,
I liked this, perhaps you will too!

that was interesting - yep, never heard of him
If Robert Duvall is in a movie then I generally will like that movie. Thanks for the alert. Will watch for this.
I was in Utopia yesterday morning. When Robert Duvall first arrived there for shooting this movie, he brought body guards and such. That lasted about three days. Utopians, like most of the Hill Country, have good manners. They don’t fall all over themselves and act a fool - in fact, most of them just went about their business and didn’t pay much attention to the “movie stars” and film crew. They definitely appreciated the $$$$ the crew brought to town, but other than that, they weren’t overly impressed.
I love Robert Duvall and think I have seen almost every thing he’s done. And, yes, Utopia is a pretty little town in the Texas Hill Country. I’m pretty sure it was major culture shock for those Hollywood folks! The streets roll up at dark thirty and I don’t think there is even a bar on town.
If I remember correctly Utopia is a Dry Town ...
TT
“Happy Gilmore” has been the only worthwhile golf movie.
