If I asked you to tell me what was the most important rifle ever used in Russia, what would it be? Many people might answer: the AK-47.
However, it was the Mosin-Nagant rifle that drove Nazis from the Motherland. The same rifle guarded the Czars, and later deposed them.
The AK may be the Cold War face of the Evil Empire, but the Mosin-Nagant was the backbone of a country when their very survival was in doubt.
In a great twist of historical irony, the former Communist country is selling the rifles that guarded the revolution to the very citizens once considered her enemies.
History
Let me introduce you to the Russian Mosin-Nagant rifle. Adopted in 1891, the Three Line Rifle was first carried by Russian troops under Czar Alexander III. Later, the gun would be known as the Mosin-Nagant rifle.

I start with a rough large ring Mauser. Mill it to fit a good scope base. Polish it to a beautiful sheen, accurize and square it. Re-barrell to desired caliber and ACCURATELY chamber it. Make custom bolt handle on the lathe, weld it on and shape. Fit a Dakota swing safety. Find a nicely figure piece of walnut and painstakingly fit it. Inlet it for a pair of Dakota sling swivel bases, skeleton grip cap and butt plate. Checker it with 20 lpi checkering. Finish it with some Tru-oil with every pore sealed and filled. Bring it to a semi gloss finish......all for about $550!
Of course, if it’s not for me, you can tack on about $850 in labor.
Looks like a 50 caliber two-by-four.

Yeah, I saw that. I think someone forgot to change the template on the web site. I’ve caught a couple of typos on their web site before - nothing major, though.
Two reasons. One was already mentioned: Caliber, or more specifically, casing length. The other: Cosomline. Those rifles are lousy with it and it’s a total bitch to remove.

You need to try a Finn.
I have an M-1 Garand manufactured in 1943, an M-1 Carbine and a Belgium Mauser manuf. in 1952 with a custom Austrian installed, silver engraved detachable scope mounting and receiver...........Do I need a Mosin?
My kids *just* bought my husband one for father’s day.
My husband’s reaction?
“Sweeeeeeet!!”
It really is a beautiful weapon.
Best $196 I ever spent. (I bought two!)
I have. Along with many Russians. My eldest son has a 91/30 that will shot your nose off at 100yds. Still does not change my mind. I don’t do ugly guns. Don’t have to. Life is too short for cheap scotch or ugly guns.
Best Christmas gift ever!
Amen, brother, amen.
Ugly is as ugly does.
That's a beautiful rifle.
Expensive ?? Bulgarian, in single spam cans, runs a bit over 20 cents a round.
And yes, I own one. 1943 Tula Arsenal. . .
Thanks for the link! I see they have CZ-82’s. I’ve got a -52, but have been thinking about getting an 82.
But can it core a apple?
