Many don’t remember that the hitting streak record, before DiMaggio passed it, was 44 games by Wee Willie Keeler.

You know what is sad at being a die hard White Sox fan? I recognize several Yankees namely DiMaggio and Phil Rizzuto but I only recognize one White Sox player, Luke Appling.
Thanks for this thread I have never seen an old sports page in my entire life.
It's funny but that little box score can tell you the entire game!

Thanks for the retro trip 70 years back. Though it was before I was born, I recognize most of the baseball names from my historical interest, though I never heard of the fellow who won the game for the Dodgers with a home run in the tenth inning.
1941 turned out to be a very interesting year in baseball. In the National League, the Dodgers won the pennant for the first time in 21 years. In the American League, Joe DiMaggio was in the middle of his record streak at the time of the NY Times pages you posted. And Ted Williams was on his way to batting over .400.

I remember Luke Appling hitting a pitch into the left field seats at 75 years old in a televised Old Timers game.
