FENTON, Mich. State police in Michigan are trying to find who left what appear to be a grandmother's cremated remains in an urn at a Goodwill store near Flint.
Fenton Goodwill store manager Allen Ryckman says "it's got to be the No. 1 or No. 2 weirdest item" the store has ever received. He says it appears to have come from a house that was cleaned out.

I don’t have Grandma’s Urn, but I do have Grandma’s Bottle. Jim Beam Bourbon. First thing she goes to when she comes to visit.

I read a story a few months ago about some guys that robbed a house, looking for drugs, and found grandma’s ashes. They figured it was drugs and snorted a bit before they found out it was a dead person.

As a mantel piece...Not my idea of a good memory.
I don't know. I found it funny when the urn did not take evasive
action, and was hit by a meteorite, and the grandkid exclaims "Grandma!"
OTOH, I think whomever dispos...um, donated the urn and contents
might have been able to do better at that "Oddities" show, or even
"Hardcore Pawn".

We do keep some ashes but not the big full size thing. That was scattered over some water. We have one of these, the very smallest one- it's only a couple of inches tall. We keep it on the mantel with a picture - no one knows what it is except the family. It holds only a couple of teaspoons of ashes and is sealed.

Really....I think leaving ashes to kids as a mantel piece is mean. Have them disposed of or buried in a cemetery. As a mantel piece...Not my idea of a good memory.
I know of someone whose ashes are on a mantel on an old Indian
gas tank. Hope some day someone does me the same honor.

I hope someone takes the urn home and honors it. If there are spirits they will look kindly on whoever does that and they'll sort of get an extra grandparent.
The new keeper should let it be known that if there is a time when the original owner wants “Granny” back she will be well cared for and they can pick her up when their life is more stable.

That’ll raise some eyebrows at the IRS when the “donor” claims Grandma as a deductible donation.
I wonder what value they’ll put on the urn...

If you *Google*: *unclaimed ashes in funeral homes*, you'll find this is becoming a huge dilemma. Another sign of hard times.

Reading these posts brings to mind the scene after Donny dies in “The Big Lebowski”. Definitely John Goodman’s best work.

Maybe she liked thrift stores, and that’s where she wanted her ashes put.
