In my opinion this site is much less active than it was in the early days.

During the Clinton era, this site was a major thorn in the Clinton's butt. We were taking out full page ads during the early days of impeachment. We did stuff to combat what we were seeing. In hindsight the Clinton's weren't that bad, in comparison.

Should we be doing more?

banned freepers - from what I have seen there was a legit issue.

Site updates? The server issues have largely been solved. They have adapted to threats over the copyright issues, and other legal insanity like the stupid paper in Arizona.

This is still without any doubt the best forum on the web.

Thank you Jim Robinson..

It amazes me how often I read a breaking news item here and a day or 2 later it is on FOX.

I often have fun informing co-workers or family about things that haven't hit the lamestream media yet or with details that the lamestream won't report. They look at me quizzically but they realize I know what I'm talking about. Recent case in point: Weinergate. The CNN and NPR devotees didn't know he was texting underage girls and a porn star and were starting the 'consenting adult' meme. But what I learned here on FR helped me shoot 'em down (and I made sure to mention the word 'democrat' a lot for good measure)!

Long Live Free Republic!

I have been around here quite a while and I have personally noticed that if you say something controversial, instead of respectful intelligent debate discussing the merits of the issue, you get personally attacked and crucified, not by just liberals, but so called conservatives also. After a few episodes like that, it becomes just not worth it.

I kinda like the cleanness and clarity of the site. Any “upgrades” would probably be lame. Can you imagine if FR had avatars?

¡Viva la República (Spanish)

Vive la République (French)

Hurra der Republik (Terman)

Ура Республики (Russian)

And in any other language you choose:

"Hurrah the Republic"

"Free Men need not ask permission" may it ever be so in the United States of America (again).

Experienced Free Republic posters are just getting more efficient and the MSM/LSM/DBM is entirely gone credibility wise. Some talk radio is the only other source of accurate relevant information, so we can process and condense the information more quickly. Result, less traffic and more informed FReepers.

We get busy when we have to correct a newbie or attend a troll zotting.

Jim Robinson (and family and friends) have smoothed this site out nicely. Don't need fancy, ya got reliable.

Thanks Jim and crew!

While Rush says he's show prep for the rest of the MSM, I believe FR is show prep for Rush.

Agreed. There’s been more than one occasion when I have been working...ok, ok, reading FR...while Rush is on the radio and a half hour after I read something very interesting on FR he’s talking about it.

Ideological purges and technological innovation have taken their toll.

You must be talking of all the moderates pushing left-leaning Presidential candidates like Rudy and Myth Romney.

You know the ones, the ones pushing for candidates that were weak on Abortion, Gay Marriage, 2nd Amendment rights or you name the important moral/liberty issue.

More power to Jim for getting rid of those who attempted to make FreeRepublic more of a moderate GOP site than a conservative site.

This is a discussion forum, after all - what kind of improvements are really necessary? Personally, forum software changes tend to be disconcerting.
I don’t know much about software or computers, but these pages are fast to load, that’s a good thing. If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it.

With all that outta the way have learned much from this wonderful site over the years. Coupled with a penchant for reading anyway throughout my life it’s been addicting. I also tend to have a good memory for certain facts and concepts so it’s very useful to borrow Freepers ideas and arguments in everyday life. They have proven invaluable, given the types of folks who seem to hate me. Thank God. I used to lurk and post at an old university bulletin board 20 years ago, and heard all the hard corps lefty loonie arguments then. This site is great, why change simply for the sake of change? Message boards just don’t require much. Now, ZeroHedge could use a bit of help with a search function and such.

you say something controversial

I'm pretty sure you mean something "indefensible", but please clarify, what was it...?

In the end we did get him: 19 December 1998

It's a permanent black mark, not only on the Clintons, but on the Senate of 1999, and Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist who "presided" over the utterly clownish sham of a trial for removal from office.

The historic amorality of that Senate is no better illustrated then in the infamous voice vote of Senator Arlen Spector "not proven"! The facts of criminal behavior by President Clinton were clear. The Senators vote represented a egregious breach of civil order and a mockery of justice.

Uh, Crevo threads of the past were absolute war...
Now you can talk about carbon dating, evolution and life on Earth before 6,000 years ago and not get flamed. I think manners have actually improved.
But I do miss some of the talent lost in the great purges of yore.
