During the Clinton era, this site was a major thorn in the Clinton's butt. We were taking out full page ads during the early days of impeachment. We did stuff to combat what we were seeing. In hindsight the Clinton's weren't that bad, in comparison.
Should we be doing more?
1) Donald Trump was riled up about protectionist, blatantly closed and unequal Chinese trade. He’s right.
2) I believe our healthcare system currently is flawed, in its very real potential to instantly ruin families through catastrophic costs. I do not advocate nationalized healthcare. Yet there is in my mind no question our current system is broken and sometimes disasterous to American families. That seems to be Trump’s point.
Just to embrace your direction a bit, I believe Perot was right also. Ahead of his time.
All that said, I hope Trump stays in a rabble-rousing role and lets someone else carry those issues to the WH without any further distraction from him.
Perhaps then appointing him to some cabinet position where he can act on some of his rather correct issues.

I read about the Anthrax attacks on FreepREpublic hours before the press reported it. The only effective treatment for it is Cipro which I’m very allergic to. I worked a few blocks from the senate office buildings at the time. Needless to say I spent most of my time outside chain smoking that day.

I became a FReeper in 2000. Things were much different for sure. Freepers had to have knowledge of html to make a good post here. The "look" was very different. IF people didn't close the tags the whole thread became cockeyed. We even had to use html to send freepmail back then.
Jim and John have done a very fine job upgrading the software. I can speak to a few things I know about like the very first "bump list'. FReeper Sir Gawain came up with the idea of the "Banglist". FR's very first bump list. He contacted me along with a few others. I was a co founder with Sir Gawain.
That first "bump list" (The Bang List) spawned more bump lists. These was a bump list for anything someone could think of. Heck, there was a "bumplist" to sort the various bumplists. And it all started with the "Bang List".
Point being that we no longer have bumplists because John incorporated those into a software rewrite. Those are the "Keywords" you see. Such is the progress.
Freeper Lonepalm coined the term "Broken Glass Republican" right here at FR.
FReeper Buckhead "busted" Dan Rather. Every Freeper knows that. Even new Freepers should know about that.
As to the "so called" purges... well, take a good look at This Thread!
Those were a bunch of disgruntled Freepers wanting....nay...begging to get "banned" so they could leave FR crying about how they "got the axe". Jim Didn't "kick" anybody out. They didn't have the guts to "opus" out. So they got themselves "banned" by obnoxious behavior! That way they left FR "crying" about mistreatment. Good riddance.
There are a lot more things I could Cite but I'd have to type the rest of the night.
Much more recently, how about the FR involvement with the TEA Party? How about the recent election. Do you believe FR is lacking in influence in those arenas?

Jim has maintained his standards! This IS a conservative site and shall remain a conservative site and I thank God for that. Jim Will Not compromise his conservative values and beliefs and that is that. Thank You Jim! FR will continue to be an influence! Bet on it!

I am a ‘98-er, having lurked on FR for about a year before I signed on. Went to the 10/31/98 March for Justice at the Washington Monument, and can still picture the amazing site of walking there from the Metro, not knowing how many people might be there, just knowing I HAD to be there to protest against Clinton.
Came up the rise and saw 4,000 people and flags from so many states. Seven weeks later Clinton was impeached.
As others have stated, it was the Senate on Feb. 12, 1999 that failed to do its duty and remove Clinton from office.
2012 represents the last hurrah of this Republic. I pray that Sarah Palin will enter the race because she is the only person strong enough to overcome Obama.
Except for a brief patriotic surge after 9/11/01, we have seen since 2/12/99 a slow but steady descent into a bizarro type America.
If good citizens don’t make a stand in 2012 and get rid of Obama,it is the end of the American experiment. We are ruled now by elitists, incompetents, ne’er-do-wells and Marxists, who disdain America and care not about its uniqueness in the annals of world history.
We stand in the gap to oppose them.

Funny you’d post that pic in response to “big bad easter bunny.” That’s Mitch Easter’s old band. I knew him. Talented producer, good writer, unfortunately whiney singing voice. He did get a fair amount of regional and possibly national airplay back in the day, despite that.

Jim Robinson has done a great job in preserving this
site as a place for conservatives without swaying from the classic definition of conservative.
There is a lot of vetting going on of the candidates. I don't understand people seeing that as division.
I'm thinking you've answered the question. After all the years of FR effort, we were left without leadership at the National GOP level. We got a GOP Congress that spent like a 'drunken sailor' with 'W' in the White House. Then they hit us with McCain. Sometimes, people just get tired carrying a heavy load when there is no leadership.
I worked hard to defeat Gore and Kerry. Then 'W' let the MSM hammer him in the ground along with the rest of us. 'W' didn't have what it took to stand up to the liberals.
And now, we got Romney in the lead?? We've got a GOP establishment in D.C. that's looking out for themselves.

It’s an inside joke. There were threads where people argued about her weight, To thin, just right ...... etc Then came the picture rules. I think those threads are where Laz first became famous for his “I’d hit it” line, but don’t quote me on that.
I lurked for a decade because of my employer and troubles I had with Alphabet soup agencies during the Clinton years. Being conservative was not very common in my line of work! Differing opinions were not tolerated.

There were numerous freepers who had personnel visits from the FEDS for their opinions in those days.
Not even remotely like it was in 98. I could even navigate it back then. Now I can’t manage to post anything. I gave up on that. FR has always gone up and down depending on what is going on. And yes, the purges come from time to time. Some people just don’t know when to shut up. They forget that we have a boss who owns the place and there are “rules”.
