Any FReepers in Miami? Need advice on good and bad areas to stay asap
vanity

Can any FReepers in Miami area let me know how safe the downtown area is and the metro-mover? Should they use cabs or is the metro-mover safe?

My son is going tonight (last minute) to watch the game tomorrow with a friend. He is a grown man(mid twenties), so I don't want to say too much other than watch out and keep your wits about you, etc. But I was reading about the 'good and bad areas' online and some said it was dangerous and others said it was fine. All the sites about 'good and bad' neighborhoods online are so PC...I don't know what to believe. They are staying at a reputable hotel chain downtown near the riverwalk, but it looks very close to 'Little Havana', but not knowing the area, it's hard to tell. I hate Miami ever since almost getting mugged there in college.

I am sure it has changed...but for the better or worse..I don't know.

Any advice would be appreciated.

That Doubletree hotel has the most awesome pool and hot tubs, and it also has a little convenience store along with several restaurants and other stores on the ground floor. The convenience store has drinks and basic foods for very reasonable prices, not like when you pay $5.00 for a bottle of water in your room.

This reminds me of ‘75. The superior Bullets used about 6-7 guys. The Warriors had a 10-11 man rotation. By the 4th quarter, the Bullets were done.

I had tried to put this painful memory, including a lot of scoring by Rick Barry, in the past. That 4-0 sweep was a shocker.

Yeah, I’m offended by people here that have only experienced Miami on their asses watching Miami Vice!

As you may see from my travelings, Miami is a Sunday School location compared to other places in the world where I have been!!

Just go “next” door to Mexico, hmmm!!!

Wow...that is quite a map there on your home page! My travel map would be pretty dull....lol.

Just don’t take it personal. Most people in this thread had alot of good things to say about Miami. I love Florida, but usually go to the Destin area. My aunt use to live in Ft Lauderdale and I visited her a few times years ago. The springs around Ocala are beautiful.. We did some snorkling there once.

Yea look at it this way, there are so many out of towners and tourists that party in Miami, the criminal element can’t possibly get to all of them.

That's all a blur to me. The only thing I remember is the camera in the huddle and Unseld saying, "I wanna' hit the boards!"

Growing up a die-hard Bullet / O's / Colts fan, some of those post season fiascoes definitely warped me for life.

Well congrats, who would’ve thunk it, your son must’ve had a blast, sounds like there were quite a few Mavs fans down there. Looks like he knew what game to be at.

Thanks....Dallas is all excited. First NBA in franchise history...so it’s a big deal for us. There was a huge gathering of fans here at Airlines Center in the big D. He sent me a pic last night while he was at the game. Haven’t heard from him since last night, but I am sure they had a great time. I appreciated everyone’s input.
