HAWTHORNE, Fla. -- A 74-year-old man attacked by pit bulls Friday morning had his right arm amputated, his left arm partially amputated and suffered severe facial injuries, Putnam County deputies said. Deputies were called to the 200 block of Old Hawthorne Road in Hawthorne about 11 a.m. and found Roy McSweeney severely injured. McSweeney was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville and was in surgery Friday afternoon. His condition was not available. Investigators said the two dogs responsible for the attack belonged to McSweeney's neighbor.

They said the owner of the dogs gave both of them to authorities, and the pit bulls were euthanized and taken to the Putnam County Health Department to be tested for rabies.

Deputies said no further details could be released. .

My neighbor has two jack russells and one of them is blinder than a bat. They raise hell when I’m outside.

For my “Sweet 16” birthday, my dad gave me a shotgun.

[I had a...um...”unusual” childhood]

It is a tad late. First major gun should be twelve or thirteen at the latest. :^)

Not necessarily a bad thing.

He started me shooting when I was 10.

That was my first “my own gun”.

[frankly, I’d have preferred he handed over the Ruger but that wasn’t gonna happen]

He made up for it later.

He gave me his 1966 Centennial Winchester 30.30 with all the gold plated fittings because a 30.30 was what I grew up hunting with.

Still in the original fancy box and has never been shot.

It’s too pretty to shoot.

:)

[I just go out back and plink the crap outta stuff with the and the Beretta 9mm. Fun fun fun!]

Um, at least I ~used~ to until I lost all our guns in a horrible boating accident.

*ahem*

My dad had all of his hunting rifles and shotguns in the front closet. I dared not touch them unless he said so. He used to shoot meat from the road in 1960 from the McKinley area. That was our meat as only dry goods and condensed milk was obtained from Anchorage every 5 months.

YES, it is the dogs fault. It’s the owner’s fault ONLY for owning the dog at all. Those dogs snap. They snap and attack their most beloved family members frequently. There have been no reputable studies done that I know of to show how prevalent brain lesions are. I hate those dogs, will not go around them and I call the cops when someone has them at the beach unleashed.

My dad’s were in a built-in wall case he’d made.

It was rarely locked but I knew better.

[I read “Bluebeard”]...LOL

The Ruger, however, was on the shelf at the head of my parent’s bed.

Between me and thee, it got to out and play when they went away....:)

My ass would have been beat into heaven if he ever caught me screwing around the guns. He would teach, but he knew the power and a strong parent he was. Everything else was a go, as long as I didn’t get caught.

The “brain lesion” myth is just an updated version of the 1970s “Too small Doberman skull” BS.

I guess they had to change it to something more ‘pseudo-medically official’ because the former version just sounded so damn ridiculous to rational people.

:)
