Millionaire dog dies at age 12 (Trouble Helmsley)

A millionaire heiress died at age 12 in December, and the world is just finding out now.

Don't feel too bad, though. Trouble Helmsley, perhaps the world's most pampered pet, was 84 in dog years when she succumbed to illness and died, according to the New York Daily News.

She also, unbeknownst to her, outlasted several vows to bring her to a more violent end. Trouble received multiple death threats from people angry that her doting owner, billionaire real estate tycoon Leona Helmsley, left her a stunning $12 million in her will.

While Trouble hit the jackpot, Helmsley also unceremoniously cut two of her grandchildren out of her will. They sued, arguing that their grandmother wasn't of sound mind when she signed the document in 2005. Disgruntled grown grandchildren Craig Panzirer and Meegan Panzirer Wesolko each received several million in the ensuing deal, and a judge knocked $10 million off Trouble's inheritance, putting the sum back in the $8 billion The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

>>Maltese of means ping.<<

You have to have a begrudging respect of someone who flips off the world.

I think everyone should die broke — and give any positive difference to worthy charities.

Children don’t deserve any support once they have been launched into adulthood.

The poor dog got cut back from $10 million to $2 million out of a billion dollar estate. That was a contentious family, all around.

I’ll bet the lawyers did better than the dog.

What you might expect from the family of "The Queen of Mean."

Everyone does die broke. I leave my money to family, I’ll be damned if I leave it to a dog.

I hate this and I hope they lose every penny. The judge who ruled in their favor too. Bastards all.

Actually, I do not believe in inheritances. Not for people, not for dogs. Everybody should be able to make it on their own. Nothing is more disgusting then people waiting for their parents to die so they can inherit some money. I say screw them all. Let them work for a living like everybody else.

Hardly an inheritance I speak of. Maybe 10,000 or so per the person. Enough to help with a jam so they can move on.

I kinda like that old American Dream stuff where each generation starts a bit better off for the labors of the last. Wish that had been me.

I still won’t leave it to a dog. I would leave the dog to a family member that likes dogs.

Imagine you despised your family. Like I said this was big finger to the family.

And my kitty of 25 years old was in my will (sadly she passed before I did).

I wish I could tell what happened to the money the doggy no longer will get.

And the fact the granddaughters got money against Ms. Helmsley shows that our system is totally screwed up.

The owner of the money should have 100% control of its disposition post-mortem. Even if he/she is nuttier than a fruitcake. We deserve NOTHING from our relatives that created their own wealth!

I wish Mrs. Helmsley had just given it to a charity like CCF and avoided this whole mess. A few thousand would have been enough for the dog until end of life.

I can’t disagree about helmsley and her contempt for her family. I am just saying that leaving her wealth to a dog was stupid. It now goes to the lawyers and handler of that dead dog. Maybe there was a great-grandchild that could have used it well. She will never get that. She gets no remembrance at all.

Uh, do you know anything about the grandchildren? I do not, BUT, I do know there are reasons some people do NOT get inheritances....personally, I don’t believe in massive inheritances.

So nice of you to decide what is best for everybody. I guess providing some comfort and security for one's children is an aspiration we should all just abandon, since we've now been exposed to your infinite wisdom.
