Attention Skype users: Is Skype still down for you?
Posted on 06/09/2011 2:13:01 PM PDT by EveningStar
Skype went down a couple days ago.
I just tried to connect and it's still crashing for me.
If any of you have been able to successfully connect, then the problem may be on my end.

I did a quick news search and found some articles talking about major intermittent skype outages

Just connected with folks back home - this is from Australia. Everything’s fine here although I did get an emergency message that I just ignored since it wasn’t from anyone I know. Maybe it could have been an outage notice. But again, all’s well here.

Well, Skype 5.3 runs fine on a backup PC I have running WinXP SP3, and the mobile version runs fine on my Droid2.
However, over a week ago I had Skype crash on launch while FireFox 3.6.17 was loading, and now it GPFs within a few seconds of launch now on every attempt.
Windows. Stable as a bowl of Jello in a hurricane. Hey, I'll just take three days off work and reinstall the whole OS... that'll fix it!

Had some problems yesterday. Downloaded a big update and it’s running fine in S. America.

I updated and re-booted. It’s working for me now.

If you run FireFox be sure to remove the Skype add on.
It will make Skype much more stable.
You can easily add the Skype add On back if you fear its critical, which it’s not.

In my case, I did not only just remove the Skype add-on to FireFox 3.6, but I even removed the entire Skype app from my drive using Revo Uninstaller (scrubbed clean right down to the registry entries). I then rebooted, downloaded a new installer, and reinstalled Skype 5.3 from scratch. No change:

Do a sweep with MalawareBytes just for fun.
Then manually remove Skype thru regedit.
I run 3.6 as well and when I use the FF Addon Skype is buggy as heck.
PM if you need Malawarebytes help.
