We’re in the monsoon season, and they started right on time yesterday. I’ve never seen so much humidity in this valley as there was yesterday. No landmarks more than a mile away could be seen.
Then the T-storms last night. Ugh. Ever since my year in SD, I have HATED T-storms.
Ugly today, too. Humidity is still up, and the low last night was 82. :o([
I am having no luck on the job front but my side business is picking up so things are ok for right now.
How are things for you?
I spent the last month caring for my friend’s ailing mother who came out from Boston for a visit. She’s 84, weighs about 84 pounds, and is on O2 24/7.
It was an interesting month, and often difficult, but it was an honor to care for her.
Could you FReepmail me the URL again? I lost it in the last crash.
;)
It's 75 at the moment, (above) which is fairly warm for here, and the humidity is high for the region with all that water laying around.
This country does look good in green, though, it's a nice break from white or brown.
Thunderstorms are already part and parcel of the day here, at least it isn't lightning while it is snowing...I saw that a few times this past winter.
They move fast across the prairies, so I'm always watching the cloud base for signs of trouble.
I have only been through two tornadoes in my lifetime, but that was plenty.
I never EVER want to spend time in the Midwest again. I hated SD and MO almost equally, for the weather and the flatness of the horizon. I was reared in the Rockies, and mountains are still what I love.
Of course, the first five years of my life, we lived on an island in Alaska Territory, so water is a good thing, too.
I’m never going east of the Rockies again, except to visit my son in AR every two years. Since I go there in December, I don’t have to deal with more than cold and ice.
Which URL do you need?
You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.
~Erma Bombeck
True! We bought the fireworks in South Carolina on Saturday, and the people across the street are bringing the junk food. Last night’s explosions were (according to the girls) the work of the Ecuadoran people two houses up, so the big show from next door is still to come, hopefully.
Our Cub Scouts were in a parade this morning, along with church groups, dance studios, the antique car club, and anyone else with $15 for the entry fee.
Oh, come on! It’s great here! The mountain removal project is nearly complete, you can see for 20 miles on a clear day, and the winter keeps the riff-raff out! What’s not to like?
I like that, but I’ve liked Erma Bombeck’s writing since I was fairly young (The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank was an early favorite.)
My mother loved Erma Bombeck. All her books were around our house when I was a girl.
HTB’s tagline is from a “Marcus Didius Falco” novel, although I don’t remember which one. The only series set in ancient Rome that’s not incredibly depressing ...
I really enjoyed the last one when they rid themselves of a pest but I have to wonder if it means that she is getting ready to end the series. I hope not!
We didn’t have a Christmas tree for two years after I read “The Iron Hand of Mars” ;-). The author is getting very old, so the series has to end at some point, but with each book so successful, I don’t think she’s going to quit while she can still type.
There’s the ones where they solve mysteries, too.
The URL for your side work. I think I know folks who would love to go there.
OHYAH!!
Erma was WISE!!
I could see for 20 miles on a clear day...to the north is Mt. Timpanogos, to the southeast is Mt. Nebo, and to the west is West Mountain. To the south is a gap to drive through and see more mountains.
The canyon was almost at our front door, the lake was at our back door, and Boy Scouts RULED in the summer!
The rodeo grounds were less than a mile away, and the livin’ was easy!
:o])
They all solve mysteries, but sometimes it’s so depressing you wish they hadn’t, like in the “Porfiry Petrovich Rostnikow” books.
