It’s a spinoff from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, mostly follows the same pattern of slaying monsters with a mild plot tying it all together, but a bit darker than Buffy. If you’re interested start with Buffy (ignore the movie, it stinks and completely missed the point of the script), if you like it and stick with it long enough for the character of Angel to leave you can start watching Angel in parallel. If you don’t like it no biggie, Joss is an acquired taste.

I've generally really enjoyed Buffy and Angel. I was sorry to see Willow hook up with the witch (for the obvious reason and because that witch was just SO frigging bland).

This post is serendipitous. I just finished watching Angel on Netflix and am now half way through Buffy. I prefer Angel to Buffy. It is darker but I think the vampire with the tortured soul is a cool idea. Also, the series finale was great. I recommend both series.

Of course, I think Firefly was the best Whedon show ever.

Yeah I hate the other witch, just a terrible actress, always looks like somebody just kicked her dog. But by and large good shows.
