I was raised Lutheran and have attended many churches. I was born-again in 2005. I was shocked to have a Catholic tell me that *we* aren't saved by grace alone ... but that we need to recharge our salvation with works.
Now ... it's not that I'm not charitable and kind. We all know the studies about Christians and charitable giving.
But *I'M* NOT saved by Grace? Are you kidding?
My grandma is 103 ... she has endured so much loss and she still lives on her own.
A couple of weeks ago ... her only remaining son. (We lost my dad and his younger brother a year after....) ... Her son said.. “So ...MOM... what do you want at your funeral???....
aaaand...we’re all frank enough to deal with it.
(GRANDMA’S METHOCATHOPRESBYTERIAN)
She said... I want ... Whispering Hope and this one song about how God watches the sparrow.....
I LOVE THAT WOMAN!
Who is that Cat?(((((Hugs)))))
Well they also say that child rapists aren’t pedophiles either...
They are just misunderstood clergy from the 60’s sexual revolution...
Why, it’s Grace herself, and how Slick!

“If I am a Protestant ... am I damned?”
No.
” I have had Catholics here on Free Republic tell me that theres only ONE TRUE CHURCH and its theirs?”
And they’re right.
“I dont want to disrespect you Catholics... but dont you think you are overcomplicating salvation?”
Nope. Not in the least.
“Is there such a thing as born again Catholics?”
Yes, every single one of them. That doesn’t mean they all always cling to Christ of truth. Everyone is capable of backsliding.
“Please excuse my exuberance and clarity ... but I was raised Lutheran... and became an agnostic/atheist .... Jesus saved me in 2005 when I found my stupid self on my knees begging...”
Okay. As a “raised Lutheran” maybe you should read this: http://www.amazon.com/There-Stood-Here-Stand-Rediscover/dp/0759613206
One of my dearest friends in this world is a former Lutheran minister - now a Catholic.
“Im just shocked to read Catholics saying Im NOT saved by that grace.”
Anyone saved is saved by grace. Not all who think they will be saved will be, however. There’s a lot of presumption out there. Jesus warned us against it (Matthew 7:21-23).
Oh by all means, let’s get Christians at Freerepublic fighting with each other. That will really work to unify conservatism here in our FR home.
Ok... I am only addressing one issue here.
I’m not talking about TEN things. I’m talking about one.
I’m not being SENSATIONAL.... you are.
“In other words, there are plenty of stupid, ignorant, ill-informed Protestants. Why would you think every Catholic isnt stupid, ignorant or ill-informed.”
????
It sounds as if you’re offended by the claim.
Satan is hte father of ALL offense.
show me scriptural support for the assertion that at an “age of reason” the rules for salvation suddenly change. The cartoon you posted actually applies to you or anyone that decrees doctrines that are not declared in the Bible.
I love her too.

LOL... thanks.
Not everyone in the Catholic Church knows what he is talking about.
No, we can do nothing without Grace.
In addition to what I said earlier, once one has become a Catholic—and that was done by your free choice, responding to the offer of God’s grace and enlightenment, then we also need to make use of the Mass and the Sacraments.
Baptism, confirmation. Weekly Mass attendance. Confession at least once a year during the long Easter season, and more often if we fall into serious sin.
If we have Grace, it is possible to throw it away. And it is possible, through the help of Confession and Communion, to recover it.
Since the Church in America is still in a rather confused state—although it is still the one, true Church, One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic—intelligent Catholics need to find ways to educate themselves, by reading the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, selected encyclicals, the Church Fathers, and by seeking advice from people and organizations you find you can trust. How do you do that? Well, it’s all cumulative. You need to pray, make use of the Sacraments, read, seek further inspiration, continue to ask for God’s help.
Your such a brat. Now I have to look it up.
Hypocrisy, disinformation, ignorance, hatred,
are all well established amongst the Catholics,
you can be sure of that, and I was once a member
of the Church, and am a current observer of its
members to this very day.
We are all sinners, yes, but why, oh, why, do so
many of us must also be such Sunday Church attending
criminals?!

“There are roughly 650 laws on the Old Testament.”
Why don’t you enter in the number in the Talmud too?
“Roman Catholic canon law exceeds 1,700 rules. (It once exceeded 10,000).”
No, actually it never contained 10,000.
“As a Catholic you must keep canon law to be saved.”
No. All people are expected to obey the law. If a man steals from the poor box, he has committed theft (violating the Ten Commandments) whether it violates canon law or not.
“The New Testament teaches salvation by grace though faith - not by the keeping of laws”
Ever read John 14 and 15? Did Jesus expect us to keep or violate His commandments?
I have had Catholics here on Free Republic tell me that theres only ONE TRUE CHURCH and its theirs?
And theyre right.
So the only legit Christian religion is Catholicism?
(I’ve actually read quite a bit .... and I’m a Protestant....)
Let me fill you in on a little secret — Some Catholic’s aren’t perfect! Whoever told you that we aren’t saved by grace is ignorant of his/her own faith and needs to brush up on basic Catholicism 101.
So ... I obviously worship Satan?
Are you kidding?
