British actress Miriam Karlin has died at the age of 85 following a battle with cancer.

The A Clockwork Orange star passed away at a London hospital on Friday and the news was confirmed by Equity actors' union spokesman Martin Brown, who called Karlin a "wonderful actress" and a "marvellous friend".

Karlin began her career on the stage but made a transfer to onscreen roles in films such as The Entertainer, The Millionairess and a part in British TV show The Rag Trade. She also appeared in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 classic A Clockwork Orange as a woman murdered by Malcolm McDowell's onscreen character.

She was bestowed with an Order of the British Empire in 1975 and made her last film appearance in 2008 opposite Daniel Craig in Flashbacks of a Fool.

"British actress Miriam Karlin has died at the age of 85 following a battle with cancer."

"Naughty, Naughty, Naughty you filthy ol' soomka!"

That's amazing. She looked 85 in the film, and that was 40 years ago. Oh, to be old again!

See Super instead. Creepier, more violent and funnier than Kick Ass. Not that Kick Ass is bad, but everything that makes Kick Ass fun Super does better.

I liked Sucker Punch.

A Clockwork Orange is weird, though.

Oh yeah! Every time I hear that banana splits song I think of blades slashing through drug dealers.

One of my favorite movies.

No disrespect intended but never saw the movie and never heard of her.

Good for you. It's important that you post your ignorance to the forum.

But the intent of the post was tell everyone that you didn't know, as if that makes you superior.

It gives the picture some balance, doesn’t it.
The adulation has not been universal, we learn.
It’s not obvious to me that the poster was parading his superiority.

What do you mean by repulsive content? It’s unpleasant subject matter to begin with. Taxi Driver was about a sick man’s decline not unlike Dostoevsky’s ‘Notes from Underground’ which was part of the inspiration for it.

I couldn’t make it 20 minutes into Kick Ass. That was probably the worst opening 20 minutes of the many hundred of movies I’ve seen.

The first movie I took my future wife to see was Marathon Man with Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier. It has an extended and brutal scene where Larry tortures Dustin by drilling his teeth without anesthesia.

It wasn’t till sometime later I found out my lady has a dentist phobia.

I am quite amazed still that she agreed to a second date.

Actually, I have. At least I was interested in finding out what in hades was happening in Eraserhead. I never did understand it but it sure beat what I saw of Kick Ass.
