British actress Miriam Karlin has died at the age of 85 following a battle with cancer.
The A Clockwork Orange star passed away at a London hospital on Friday and the news was confirmed by Equity actors' union spokesman Martin Brown, who called Karlin a "wonderful actress" and a "marvellous friend".
Karlin began her career on the stage but made a transfer to onscreen roles in films such as The Entertainer, The Millionairess and a part in British TV show The Rag Trade. She also appeared in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 classic A Clockwork Orange as a woman murdered by Malcolm McDowell's onscreen character.
She was bestowed with an Order of the British Empire in 1975 and made her last film appearance in 2008 opposite Daniel Craig in Flashbacks of a Fool.
That was such a creepy movie. My first date with my husband.......hum. Glad I didn’t hold the choice against him, really a first date, what was he thinking?
The cat-woman was going to teach young Alex what happens to young hoodlums who break into “real people’s houses”. At least she fought!
“Glad I didnt hold the choice against him, really a first date, what was he thinking?”
Yikes. What were you thinking? He must have been a hunk.

When she was chasing Little Alex around the house with the penis sculpture was pretty funny.
RIP Miriam
No disrespect intended but never saw the movie and never heard of her.
I agree, horrible movie. It’s amazing that you went out with him a second time.
wow, that’s a helluva list
LOL! It blew my mind when I saw it in student union building at school on a Friday movie night.
Heh. Our first was “The Ring”. We’re still trying to figure that out.
wow, thats a helluva list
‘71 was a good year for movies and popcorn was 25 cents
The introduction of HitGirl is a classic.
Kubrick was a genius and a master - just look at the image from a single frame of his movie - nothing left to chance and that was when movies were really worth seeing.
We went to a Kubrick double feature at the New Varsity theater in Palo Alto about a million years ago (okay, it was 1979 or 1980). Clockwork Orange followed by 2001: Space Odyssey.
Now THAT was a double feature.
Like most Kubrick films it was very memorable and very well done. However, like many films of the past 45 years, it was the content that was horrible. I saw Taxi Driver for the first time a few weeks ago. What a great looking film. Too bad the content was utterly repulsive.
Kick Ass was a pleasant surprise on many levels. Hit Girl struck me as amazing but she is tragic in a way because you know she won't have a normal life (especially without big daddy.)
I had no idea that flick was on Netflix on-demand.
I heard it was pretty kick ass.
I’ll be watching it tonight.
Thanks
