Ringo Starr looks at a photograph of his young self and laughs.
We didnt know what was ahead of us. You never do. We didnt think it would last.
The black-and-white image shows the Beatles in suits in the early Sixties, waiting to appear on a television show. Hes not sure which one. Paul is whistling, George is distracted, John is wide-eyed and Ringo is staring at the camera, his feet up on a seat. In the picture (below) he looks the most assured, by far.
Even Paul thought, Well, Ill probably end up as a writer. So did John. George was going to have a garage.
But Ringo was a drummer before the Beatles and he still is, long after them. Nearly half a century later, at the age of 70, the boy in that picture is preparing to go on the road again, touring Britain and Europe with the latest incarnation of his All Starr Band.
He rarely gives interviews, and gets frustrated when all people want to talk about is the Fab Four, but today says hes at ease with it. So here goes. How does it feel to be a Beatle, at his age?

I love that band, but do you realize how old that “new band” is?
Based on all I’ve heard and read on the guys over the decades, I’m betting your friend’s characterizations were dead-on.
Still keeping time at 70 bump
... This is happening not me a lot lately.
Sadly, yes, but it's still newer than his old band.
And then there's the fact that a couple of those guys aren't around any more and haven't been for quite some time.
The Ghoul Pool
Pete Best turns 70 this year as well. Never forget Pete Best, the original Beatles drummer!
LOL! In that picture, Paul looks like Ferris Bueller!
Says something about Rolling Stone.
Ringo is a pretty average drummer, but by all accounts a pretty nice and likable guy.
Anyone here remember "The Magic Christian"? My wife claims the only reason I liked it was because of the influence of chemical mood enhancers when I watched it in the 70s.
Nice...thanks for posting.
Your wife is right. In fact at that point almost anything by Terry Southern was an acquired taste and almost none of it holds up.
I thought Howdy Doody...
I loved this. I saw it right after red nose day. The George Michael part was hilarious and - Gordon Brown!! I think you have to watch a lot of BBC America to truly appreciate how funny it was.
I haven't watched it in many, many years. You're probably right, but it seemed funny at the time.
Well,that’s “greatest” not “best.”
Big difference.
I see kids, including pre-teens, wearing Beatles t-shirts all the time. At least they’re learning some of the classics!
I thought this thread was about Ringo not Yassir Arafat.
