Ringo Starr looks at a photograph of his young self and laughs.
We didnt know what was ahead of us. You never do. We didnt think it would last.
The black-and-white image shows the Beatles in suits in the early Sixties, waiting to appear on a television show. Hes not sure which one. Paul is whistling, George is distracted, John is wide-eyed and Ringo is staring at the camera, his feet up on a seat. In the picture (below) he looks the most assured, by far.
Even Paul thought, Well, Ill probably end up as a writer. So did John. George was going to have a garage.
But Ringo was a drummer before the Beatles and he still is, long after them. Nearly half a century later, at the age of 70, the boy in that picture is preparing to go on the road again, touring Britain and Europe with the latest incarnation of his All Starr Band.
He rarely gives interviews, and gets frustrated when all people want to talk about is the Fab Four, but today says hes at ease with it. So here goes. How does it feel to be a Beatle, at his age?

70? dang.
Paul McCartney died... again?
Actually you could still form a Beatles Fab Four: Ringo Starr, Pete Best, Chas Newby, and Jimmy Nicol. There just wouldn’t be any musicians there.
Ringo’s so cool
When Ringo quits so will I.
... in what seems like moments.
I always liked Ringo’s music sense. I just wish he could hold a tune. :) As a singer, he always made me wince.
But I do like his song choices. Amazon has a MP3 of his on sale for $5 today, and I may buy it.
You have to read the article.
I tracked down the sketch he mentioned.
It’s after the 11 minute mark when Mccartney chimes in.

Yes, it’s great, though I’ll be the first one and for the first eve3r time to say that Dylan can’t sing (and neither can his imitator Petty). Couldn’t they get better backup singers?
Maybe Ringo has Paul in his Dead Pool list.
The real title is:
'Paul likes to think he's the only remaining Beatle': Ringo Starr on why the world's most famous band was lucky to have him
I once was close to a session player who played on Ringo’s albums and on some of the albums Lennon produced. She said Ringo was one of the nicest, most comfortable in his skin people she ever met and that Lennon was a complete jerk. Actually quite a bit beyond jerk—but I don’t post using the vocabulary she used to describe him. She was a very forgiving person usually. But she had to work with him regularly for quite a while and he really got under her skin.
