New York 26th district Election

Something has been bugging me about the 26th district NY election. Could this be a trial? Democrats testing the waters? Jack Davis is wealthy and paid for his own campaign. He's also a democrat, who lied about being backed by the tea party. He supported acorn from my understanding. I saw a video of someone trying to interview him and someone hit the camera man. Davis was laughing maniacally, which really creeped me out. My first thought was, this is how he helped the democrat party. Because there are limits to giving to political parties, could this have been how he indirectly gave millions? He knew that there was a good chance this would split the votes, which would go against the republican candidate. Why else would he lie about running as tea party backed? And is this a fore taste of things to come?

Is this a fore taste of things to come? More than likely.

Nothing for nothing is not the RAT way! There is some sort of pay for play deal going down. Watch for the payoff!

Yes, the Democrats will do this on a very large scale in 2012. The left is banking that ignorant conservative voters who are not paying much attention and are sympathetic to the Tea Party will just vote for anyone with the label Tea Party after the candidates name. Sadly, quite a few will.

NY26 was even worse though. In NY 26 the orginal Tea Party backed candidate, Bellavia, actually endorsed Jack Davis when he didn’t get the Republican nomination to run for this seat. It was obviously sour grapes, but the fact that the preferred Tea Party candidate did something like this shows that the NY Tea Party continues to be an awful judge of character and candidates (remember that clown Paladino). Additionally, at least one actual Tea Party organizer and some of his supporters backed Davis.

Most real Tea Party groups backed Corwin, but there were enough renegades (including their original preferred candidate Bellavia) who went off the reservation in an obvious attempt to sabotage this election and throw it to the Democrat. Apparently for some NY Tea Partiers, if they can’t get their way they will actively work to undermine the Republicans.

3rd party candidates never win any elections, unless you are in Vermont (they love socialists there).

After learning that Barry Soetoro will actively pursue gun control in a second term, I am SURE that _something_ will happen to throw the vote in his favor. I am now sure he will make a power grab, and the party will back him on it.

What’s the punishment for such treason ?

Yes, they've been putting plants into the Tea Party to make it look bad so why shouldn't they put up fake Tea Party candidates to swing elections.

Do anyone expect Democrats to be the Good Boys these days?

Email sent to New York Tea Party:

“Congratulations on your pitiful loss of the New York 26th district.
Clumsily run; clumsily lost.
Allowing Jack Davis to sell himself as a Tea Party candidate without exposing him as a liar leads one to assume that either the Tea Party leaders are incredibly stupid or they wanted Kathy Hochul to win.
Allowing the Democrats to sell the outrageous lie that the Republicans’ Medicare reform plan is tantamount to an end of Medicare without exposing them as the liars they are was either incredibly stupid or you actually wanted Kathy Hochul to win.
Wise up or continue to ensure Obama’s reelection.”

The "Tea Party" does not have automatic access to the ballot in New York State - that automatic access depends on a minimal number of votes in the last gubernatorial election. In fact, the "Tea Party" did not even run a candidate for governor in last year's election. Therefore, any candidate looking to run on a "Tea Party" line must gather the necessary petitions to get that designation on the ballot.

So the Republicans in the state legislature could and should introduce legislation to prevent the use of the name "Tea Party" for identification of candidates on future ballots. It may not pass, but it would give this kind of fraud the public attention it needs, and it may give second thoughts to any clowns in the future looking to use this ruse again.

It’s a shame that this even has to be done. But, it would appear it needs to be.

It may be time now for a meeting of the tea party tribes to draw up a document and trademark the name Tea Party. It does not have to be a political party—in fact, that would be a bad idea. Just join together and trademark the name. Be sure to exclude phony non-tea party groups who use the name. Define the principles well.

Yes, it would be a good idea for the various Tea Party tribes to come to a common understanding on what their principles and goals are. But I don't think - at least not yet - that they should declare themselves as a political party.

As for trademarking the name "Tea Party," I doubt if you can do that, because it commonly designates a specific historical event. Come to think of it, if you wanted to write legislation banning "Tea Party" on the ballot, you could generically ban names of historical events as party names.

The real Tea Party people could and should promote the legislation, because it would prevent impostors from using the name for political gain.

I think you could trademark it. You might have to spell it a different way or give it a qualifier.
