Just another day at the office in the SOCAL oparea, but I do agree that it would appear terrifying to the uninitiated.

Two awesome videos...
One question, hopefully someone can answer. It's obviosu that the multiople bolters wre caused by the deck pitching up and down..here some 30feet each cycle. So is it nothing but pure luck, when you're in the approach pattern, that the deck is at the proper height?

I have seen this before, but I forgot how compelling it is.
In a very few minutes you are biting your lip murmuring or yelling “com’on COME’ON COME’ON! DANG!”
By the end you are high fiving invisible people in your living room and/or jumping like your team just scored a 90 yard touchdown.
If public broadcasting could consistently give us this quality and subject style material we wouldn’t have to pull the plug.
Sadly, it (PBS) spends most of its efforts in undermining the work of such brave (and cool) men and women as are filmed on the shoot.
And watching the pilots QB’ing in the room is absolutely fascinating. These guys ain’t like the rest of us (except you that are “these guys”).
Thanks for a wonderful post!

“It’s more dangerous than most combat missions and the tension in the pilots and crew is very apparent. “
They told us at Pensacola that during a night carrier trap a pilot’s heart rate is higher than in combat.

The chinese can build all the carriers they want but our boys have many decades of practice on them. They will lose many many fighters trying to catch up to us. They can’t steal and copy our experience.
