Herman Cain On FOX Sunday With Chris Wallace
FreeRepublic ^ | Monday, May 23, 2011 | Gargantua

Posted on 05/23/2011 6:30:49 AM PDT by Gargantua

While it is clear from the outset that a large percentage of lurkers and posters on FreeRepublic are staunch supporters of Sarah Palin, there are nonetheless a significant if considerably smaller number who avidly support Herman Cain. My curiosity piqued by this fact, I decided to watch Herman in his interview yesterday on “2012 One-on-One” with Chris Wallace, FOX NEWS Sunday.

As the show opened, Chris ran a videotape of Herman at a campaign stop where he commandeered the stage with an undeniable presence, arms spread expansively, and said “Once I am president, Americans will be able to say, “Free at last, free at last; thank God Almighty we are once again free at last.”' Truly powerful stuff.

Wallace went on to query Cain in some detail about what he referred to as “The Cain Doctrine.” Chris first asked him, “Free from what?” I won't waste time by reciting a verbatim transcript of the back-and-forth between them, but I have supplied a link < http://video.foxnews.com/v/954878611001/ > which I encourage you to use to verify what I am reporting here. Cain listed those things from which Americans can expect to be freed by electing him president, and then he enumerated in detail the steps he would take as president to deliver us.

Wallace then “drilled deep,” asking pointed questions about the specific facets Cain had laid out, and brought up the fact that many of these suggestions Cain had listed, in fact, would not work given the current economic situation. Cain, in a surprise move, agreed, saying, “If they (Republicans) had seen these things coming, and done what I am suggesting a year ago, it could have worked. But no, it will not work now.”

Cain laid out his point-by-point plan for fixing America's problems, then admitted that the plan would not, could not work. I'm as stunned as I have ever been.

I understand how incongruous, unlikely, and absolutely contradictory this sounds. I implore you, go to the link I have provided and watch what I watched. It is astounding. At two minutes and 30 seconds into this 13 minute vid, just look at the expression on Herman's face as Wallace questions him. He looks like a student trying to come up with an excuse for why he hadn't read the chapter assigned to him the day before.

That said, please ignore the characterizations and opinions here, and watch the video. For any candidate to lay out in detail a plan for America's success, citing it as the reason why we all should vote for him, and then immediately follow up by admitting that his plan cannot work is pretty much the beginning and the end of his campaign. I understand the desire to field a Republican candidate who is a person of color, since that would remove from their quiver the Democrats’ predictable arrows and accusations of racism.

But just as my heart sank when Lt. Col. Allen West stated with finality that he would not be seeking the presidency in 2012, I realized that Herman Cain, whether or not he is capable of winning the primary (and given what we see here, that remains a very serious question), quite simply is not the one we need or should want leading this nation from the White House. There are times when he does say all the right things, and I do not question that his heart is in the right place. Well-written speeches and good intentions alone do not a great leader make. America needs a great leader.

It would be very easy, and I even fully expect, for many of Cain's most staunch supporters here on FreeRepublic to simply accuse me of having an agenda or to state factually that my allegiances lay elsewhere. While I do indeed have an agenda, and while it is true that I prefer another for the White House in 2012, those facts do not dismiss, explain, or forgive the unbridgeable gap between the promises held in Herman rhetoric and his own admission that his plan will never deliver them.

America needs a great leader, and that leader is not Herman Cain.

I tend to judge the potential field of GOP candidates through a BTO or “Better Than Obama” rating system.
For instance in 2008,McCain,Huckabee and Romney were “6s”meaning's six times better for America than Obama.
Ron Paul was (and still is) a 4,Fred Thompson an 8 and Karl Marx a 2 (I know old dead Karl wasn't running but he was there with Obama in spirit).

Cain is a 9 as is Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman.Perry and Allen West are both 8s.
The rest are 6s and below.
To me the ratings are based on conservatism, charisma, smarts and panache—being real good at one can outweigh to some extent not being so good at another.
Oh BTW,they ain't no tens!
—unless we can resurrect the Gipper.

Is there anything to the statement that he said his ideas wouldn’t actually work or is the OP leaving out info?

A) I don't know what "the OP" is.

B)He did slip up. I didn't catch it the first time around. His plan does make sense, though. Pay the interest on the debt, pay the military, pay current Socialist Security recipients, pay current Medicare responsibilities. Everything else is on the table.

He did allow Wallace to trip him up but his plan does make sense.

To me, anyways.

It sounds to me like his shortcoming was not explaining the difference between “what works right now” (as in BEFORE he would become Pres) vs. what has to be done in the next few years to avoid further disaster.

“OP” means “original poster” as in the person who posted the thread initially.

If Mooseshell can get away with the outfits she wears as First Lady, then I can't see how you can criticize a mans tie!

So, now we elect on proper attire? If that were the case, Obummer & the ghetto tramp would have been gone the first day!

Disgruntled ex employee alert? Cashing in by trashing your boss alert?

A leatherhead should care a bit more about honor, don't you think? All her AKANG Troops loved her to death. Many of her current Security Staff are former Seal and Ranger volunteers who would rather take a bullet than see her hurt.

Got integrity, grunt? Nah. I didn't think so. So, tell us; do you beat on all women, or just Palin?

If Cain gets the Republican nomination, then he will be elected the next President.

The hard part for Cain is beating the elitist, inside the beltway, check pant GOP Republicans. They DO NOT view Cain as a threat, but if they do. I can promise you they will go after Cain.

What that group GOP Ghouls want is Mitt Romney. This is because they know he will lose in 2012. Now Romney could have won in 2008. That’s why we got McCain. Don’t you understand the game?

8 years Clinton, 8 years Bush and now 8 years Obama.

Any of the following candidates that could defeat Obama.... Palin, Cain, even Trump (if he was in it) could win. This is why the GOP establishment in Washington goes after them.

Until we can rid the party of the Karl Roves, Bill Kristols, Lindsey Grahams, etc... there will basically be no opposition party in Washington.

This is also why it did not surprise me when the Republicans in the House of Representatives caved to Obama on the budget after they were elected in 2010 (overwhelmingly).

The Politics of personal destruction. If your candidate is upstaged, then bring down the opposition at all costs. And, I might say, you wasted very little time in doing so,

"If your candidate is upstaged..."

As you well know, my candidate is Palin. Please, tell us all, who "upstages" Palin? I'll wait....

...

CNN bumps O'Bunghole's speeches to give "Breaking News" updates on her Tweets! Who the hell are you kidding? At least find a straw man that doesn't make people belly-laugh next time, n'kay?

LMAO

If you are referring to the interview on Sunday, I watched it real time.

You are clearly grasping at straws here. The man declared only 2 days ago, has an impeccable past and honorable history, and already you have him beaten down as completely incompetent and unworthy.

I thought you would have understood what it is you are doing better than most, since you repeatedly complain about how Palin has been so dishonored and wrongfully abused by the press. Here you go, doing the same hypocritical thing as the Liberal MSM and are not even aware of it.

But you are going one step further, and fabricating your own vanity hit pieces without the MSM doing it for you.

Something truly IS lame here, and it's not me!

. . . and Palin's solution is what?

You criticize Herman Cain for his stumble, but what has Sarah done or said to show that she has any answer to the same question? Show me her solution to the debt problem. Show me her solution to the failed economy.

Put up or shut up, I believe is the turn of phrase.

We are all anxiously awaiting your response.

Cain has previously admitted in the SC debate that he wasn't an expert on foreign policy, but that he would get experts and knowledge when he was president. I much prefer someone who knows he is not an expert because he will seek wise advise and wisdom before making decision.

I think the worst thing is someone who is ill informed on a topic, but sees himself as an expert and proceeds to make decisions from ignorance, not wisdom.

Yeah, we'd all be much better off with Palin the quitter. Herman Cain only successfully transformed a failing Burger King region into the most profitable region in the franchise, then turned to Godfather's Pizza and transformed it from failure to success, then bought the company and ran it.

His credentials so far out strip Palin's, that it ain't even close . . . let's see, a quitter or a success . . . not even a close call.

"His credentials so far out strip Palin's, that it ain't even close..." LMAO!!!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah, now if only he could elucidate a plan that he thinks will work. And hey, plan or no plan, he is black. We all know that's the only requirement any more. And hey, if Cain doesn't make it, the janitor at my old High School is black, too. He'd make a great president!

Although he did quit smoking, so maybe he's just a "quitter" too, huh?

BTW, did you see Cain's bitchin' tie? WOW, what a presidential accoutrement. Dat man can sho 'nuff accessorize. Yo, yo.
