The crooks walked up to Kenneth Carter's tornado-damaged property with the purposeful air of relief workers in need of an all-terrain vehicle like the one he had parked out back.
"They said, `Excuse us, we've got to get this four-wheeler out of here,"' said the 74-year-old Apison resident. "I said, `I don't think so -- that four-wheeler belongs to me!"
...authorities say the South has been plagued by a variety of swindles since the twister outbreak killed 329 people in seven states.
Looters have carried off televisions, power tools and prescription pills. ..businesses are charging double for a tank of gas or jacking up the cost of a hotel room. Authorities warn of construction workers who leave with the cash before opening their tool kit
Capps, 41, after Wednesday's tornadoes, leaving his parents in the hospital...Walking up he saw a man carrying a rolled-up power cord that looked familiar. Then he noticed the cord had his own name on it.
Later Capps noticed a group -- six adults with children -- on the far side of the lot, going through a plastic bag of his mother's prescription bottles.
What are you doing in my house? It's time to go..,

Shoot on sight.
And nothing could be further from the truth...and that's exactly what I just wrote to Ailes...
Shoot looters on sight; it’s the only thing that works!
But where do you draw the line between looting and survival scavenging? That’s gonna be a tough call.
I thought this only happened in New Orleans.
As an Alabamian, I am ashamed of these people. But do know there are far, far more who give and gave....
A elderly friend from church whose home was damaged by fallen trees told me several men arrived in a jeep with chain saws the day after the storm and started to cut the trees that had fallen on his home and out buildings, piling everthing up for pick-up, generally cleaning and clearing, even helping him re-shingle his roof and rehange what siding he could find. They introduced themselves with their first names but never said their last. When they were done he asked their names; they would not say. He asked where they were from; they said just a church from Prattville. What church, he asked, they wouldn’t say, explaining they were just there to do the Lord’s work.
Hmmm.
Are you suggesting looting, stealing and extreme price gouging is not happening in the wake of these tornadoes?
Should these articles be censored or eliminated on this site, since they are "Ginned up to make the south look bad"?
As a non-emotional Calvinist would say "Shoot them and let God sort them out."
The line is drawn right in front of the big screen LCD TV...and the $150 saw...and the bag of prescription medicines...and the equipment utility companies are using to try to restore power.
Not objecting to your posting of it, but this article was lamely ginned to make the South look bad.
Hey, everyone got their wish, and sent this article to the chat corn field.....In record time!!
Amazing!
Flat screen TV =/= survival scavenging. But does equal target practice.
First thing I do if a tornado hits me here in north Georgia and my basement and anchored gunsafes aren’t swept away is prepare to camp out with a full arsenal of loaded nasties waiting for looters. Got a whole cache of staples and camping stuff to rough it.
Yet: "Lessons from the Sudetenland by by Benjamin Netanyahu" remains....
BEWAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHh
The censorship is becoming really ugly!
If they are in my house it wouldn't be that tough of a call. They would still be eating lead.
If your asking for food or medical help, if I have it, I share.
