I know this sounds a little out there, and I hope I don't get flamed (I'm putting on the safety suit anyway), but what if Sarah Palin doesn't run ?
I'm not saying she won't, I'm not hoping she won't, If she does, I fully intend to support her, but what if she does not run?
Who would you support in the primary then ?
Personally, I'd probably go with Michelle Bachman, but I know some would support Huckabee (personally, I'm not a fan of his), some would support Romney (and I will NEVER ever support him), others might choose Hermain Cain, or Governor Mitch Daniels, or Former Speaker Newt Gingrich or Congressman Ron Paul....
I'm interested, does anyone have a "back up" candidate in case Palin doesn't run ?
As I have stated on other occasions the only exceptions to the professional politician leaders are an occasional military leader like Ike. However, he was as much a politician as anyone, having to lead the Allied Coalition against the Nazis required political skills of the highest level.
You would better spend your time looking for a leprechaun and his pot of gold.
Your definition would not satisfy the Communist since socialists are considered by them to be the deadly enemy of Communism. Stalin refused to allow the German communist party to ally with the Social Democrats and defeat Hitler in the 30s. There are no socialists within the Republican Party but plenty within the Democrat. Yet another example of your inability to recognize reality.
I have to question the motives of anyone willing to consciously distract conservatives away from the only party capable of doing anything to fight the Traitor in the White HOuse. Your willingness to attack those who understand that we have no real choice at this time shows that you don’t even understand whose side you are helping or that you are a willing tool of the Left. We see such as you quite frequently braying and beating their breasts calling for support of CERTAIN losers and posing as a conservative makes real ones look like a collection of idiots.
You know little or nothing about our Founders or our history and would not recognize a patriot if he bit you on the ass.
Free Republic has no need for another Lover of Losers party.
“What you advocate “
I’m not advocating it.
Still falling for that line? He was asked if he was ready to debate the sitting President on foreign policy, and he replied, "Probably not". Seems like a sincere self-assessment that, as the Governor of Indiana, he has not wasted the Hoosier states' time preparing for a potential debate that might never happen on a topic that has nothing to do with his current position.
If he decides to run (and his wife agrees to subject herself to massive MSM scrutiny about a single stupid choice she made 17 years ago), then he can get prepped in the exact same way as every other candidate and past President, before their decision to run.
(Quick Quiz Question: Who was the last President who had any significant foreign policy experience before being elected?)
Although I think Ike might be a good asterisk answer, too. Blowing up foreign armies would qualify in my book, LOL)
President George. H.W. Bush, former CIA director, former ambassador to china, and pretty much all around foreign Policy specialist.
Was this a genuine question ?
His point still stands never the less.
Unlike the pretend politicians you tout Daniels and Christie have to get elected in the REAL world. Fantasies that there are just millions and millions more conservative voters to be drawn out of the listless mob are exploded day in and day out by elections. It is easy to predict that NO actual governor or NO actual Senator could be found who would meet your standards.
Daniels and Christie are not great favorites with me for various reasons but this next election MUST be won by the GOP or you can kiss this nation’s ass goodbye.
Daniels has taken on the Left’s most important power centers: the abortion lobby and the unions. This alone makes him worthy of significant attention. Christie has started the battle with the NJ unions and Taxers and seems to be able to handle himself in that hotbed of corruption. I prefer he wait until his first term is up but these are desperate times.
The main point, though, remains the same: it is a rarity to have ANY foreign policy experience before occupying the White House. It is silly to discount Daniels as a candidate simply because he admitted that, as someone who has not even declared candidacy yet, he was not yet as prepared as he might like to be for a debate on that crucially important topic against someone who has had daily briefings on the topic for the past several years.
If Sarah chooses not to run this time, she will have chances again in 2016 or 2020.
My preference is for the most Conservative candidate who can win.
But II will vote for any GOP candidate against Marxist Hate America radical left sympathizer Barry.
I will never vote 3rd party. That’s how you ensure a Dem victory.
It may turn out to be an Elmer Fudd kind of year, and then I say Go Elmer!
Okay, then what about his statement about declaring a “truce” when it comes to the social issues? Yes, he signed the whole Planned Parenthood defunding bill this past week, but that statement is going to come back to haunt him also because people aren’t going to know where he stands. That statement alone will kill his chances in IA, both in the Primary, and in the General if he somehow managed to get the nomination (which I don’t see at this point).
PS> You guys need to give Rush a break this week. It’s been painful listening to the seminar callers. Also, always be weary of a candidate the other side says they’d be “afraid” of. If the MSM is rooting for a guy to get the nomination, that should spell trouble right away.
He said that "we" (meaning BOTH SIDES) should call a truce on social issues so that the financial issues that threaten the immediate future of this nation can be addressed first.
It was simply a call for bipartisanship by another name. It does not mean, as you seem to want to imply, that he wants to ignore social issues. People should stop letting the MSM headline writers do their thinking for them. In the past month, he has defunded Planned Parenthood and passed strong immigration laws... but this is AFTER he put Indiana into favorable financial shape.
(His Christian background is also quite significant... and even better, he does not wear his faith on his sleeve just to pander for votes. His wife works extensively crisis pregnancy center ministries. His daughters are all active in Christian ministries. Social issues would NOT be ignored under a Daniels Administration!!)
Isn't it telling that numerous innocuous statement s have been stretched into "reasons not to vote for" Daniels? Seems like the usual MSM Palin Treatment, SOP for GOP candidates. Look at hat the man has DONE, not how the MSM can twist his words. He turned a middling state into one of the more attractive states financially, and has made solid moves on social issues, both recently and in the past. He has Executive experience, is a very good Christian, has Middle-Eastern CHRISTIAN roots, and is an excellent family man. Other than poor telegenic appearance (short, balding), the list of substantive reasons to oppose his candidacy are actually rather short.
(Think LBJ)
Cheers!
That said, I was hoping he would at least have a primary, but it looks like he has the rat party crushed in his fist.
He may have been defining foreign policy experience on a higher standard, in terms of actually crafting, not just carrying out.
Bush sr, didn't actually craft or put together any foreign policy or have the kind of role in foreign policy that a SoS or SoD would, or even a general (like Ike) actually did.
I say that because he point out that he himself was a former marine, but he wouldn't say he has military experience, if he uses that kind of high standard, then I would say he is right, not just on this, but the whole point.
I do agree that presidential candidates rarely have any foreign policy experience, and I won't hold it against a candidate, but at the same time, Daniels gaffed when he said what he did. There were a million ways of saying it, and he chose the worst way to phrase it, and thats assuming he wasn't playing possum........Which, if he was, isn't a bad strategy....
Good point, when someone is afraid of a candidate, they rarely reveal it.
I remember reading several different stories about the Clinton re-election campaign, and the one candidate that they all were afraid of (and whom Clinton himself was convinced he would lose to) was, of all the people, Lamar Amexander.......The campaign team, made sure never to come out and say that, until years later (this was during the Bush years, when they started telling these stories).
To be honest, reading about how they were scared of Alexander, made me wonder one thing......
How the hell did these guys win elections ? This was the "brains" of a winning election team ? lol.... Obviously, I don't quite get what the hell it was that really scared them, it made no sense to me.
Buy stock in Eli Lilly. A large portion of Free Republic will be getting a new perscription:
Alot of people are not even considering the possibility that she won't run.
My attitude, is to look at it, and approach, it like it was a VP pick.
In case something happens, you have a next in line......Here, next in line is, "or bust" or "the end of the world".......Not good.
“There are no socialists within the Republican Party”
I knew Bagdad Bob would pop up again. Looks like he swithced from the Ba’ath party to the GOP, except he’s making even more asinine claims than before.
Why don’t you enlighten all us with examples of Republicans proposing the nationalization of the means of production? That shouldn’t be too much for you given the plethora of socialists in the GOP now should it?
Just three would do.
