Now *there's* an idea more hospitals should try. Know anyone in the plumbing / sanitation business? Or anyone on a hospital chain's risk management staff? LOL I'm a retired medical facility Maintenance Mechanic. I was the plumber, Electrician, HVAC, Boiler Operator, you name it. No joke though things like Staph were a concern.

They worked great when I was a machinist back in the '70s - none of us got other folks' grease on our hands from turning faucets. Now the cleanser dispenser levers were a different story... Foot activated valves used to be quite common even on public water coolers. Yea I remember those hand cleaner dispenser also.

Write up a proposal and use Hopkins as an example, present it to the Risk Management / Legal teams at hospitals.
I'll bet you land more business than you can handle.
Cheers!

Foot control sinks used to be pretty common and prevented water waste as well as offering great sanitation from hand contamination. I think a lot of it was born of necessity during the Polio epidemic. When sinks and water fountains went from floor standing to wall mounted the foot control valves went with it as the epidemic had passed. Now they're dealing with containing the spread of some real bad super bugs in medical facilities.
My time has past for doing any more maintenance work. I'm medically retired now 16 years.

I wonder if the effect of electric eye control on housekeeping/cleaning of the faucet-sink area was investigated. The same problems that users have with getting adequate flow and correct temperatures just has to have an effect on the custodial cleanup.

The report was not complete but it would seem that their switch to so called green cleaning methods had something to do with this high number of deaths. The local newsrag did no followup after reporting the information.
What and link green to deaths????
(No followup on the root cause of the Challenger disaster being a switch from Freon to a "green" cleaner before the foam coating on external fuel tank)...

“Foot controlled valves would have made more sense than any thing.”
Officer, I wasn’t toe tapping, I was running the sink!

There have been foot controlled water faucets used in healthcare. I’ve used them in the hospital and clinic I’ve worked in.
