The Assault Against Old Testament History has been Beached on the Rocky Shores of Archaeology
The Ignorant Fishermen ^ | 5/7/2011 | Mark Musser

The Biblical Archaeological Review, by no means a conservative Christian magazine, recently published a surprising article by Yosef Garfinkel entitled, “The Birth and Death of Biblical Minimalism.” While Garfinkel limits his discussion to the last 30 years among certain modern archaeologists working at the University of Copenhagen, biblical minimalism is the general presumption that the Biblical text cannot be a trusted source of actual verifiable history, especially with regard to the authenticity of the Old Testament. Garfinkel shows in his article that the minimalist position is no longer a viable one. Too much archaeological evidence has been uncovered. While this has not and cannot prove the inerrancy of the biblical text, it is still a far cry from the German tidal wave of skepticism that inundated the modern world back in the 1800’s ...

This is a surprise to liberals: God does not lie. I’ve known that my whole life.

Psalm 2 and Psalm 110 are great Messianic psalms of future divine victory.

Oops, I jumped the gun.

Bump for the historical evidence of the Bible. They'll find more.

Most importantly is that their truthfulness with regard to lesser issues like history and politics also strongly suggests that the ancient Hebrew religious beliefs may be just as authentic as well.

So libtards, if God says "thou shalt not steal", he means it.

Romans 3:3-4 - What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written, “That Thou mightest be justified in Thy words, And mightest prevail when Thou art judged.”

Private property is what the promised land of Israel was all about. Having been freed from Egypt, and having taken over the promised land, then God apportioned to each Hebrew family a piece of real estate to protect them slavery. Did Pharoah gave land to his peasants? Of course not. Freedom under the rule of Law goes all the way back to the Exodus.

So libtards, if God says "thou shalt not steal", he means it.

THe "libtards" are often more guilty of covetness. After that, lying, stealing and killing will follow as a matter of course.

Putting aside the argument about the Bible being the word of God there seems to be an assumption that written history from the ancient era can not be trusted. You see it to a lesser extent in the study of Greek and Roman history. A lot of what is written is dismissed as "propaganda" until they dig up the building or other solid evidence that yes, what was written actually happened.

It is bemusing that they seem to think that during a time when writing was difficult and writing materials were rare and costly our ancestors had nothing better to do then to waste them making up stories.

It is part of their whole modern philosophy of history that only the moderns know. The peoples of the past were children in their thinking and were not nearly as adult as modern liberalism. The belief in progress, therefore, has clouded their judgment when they assess the ancient historical past. What they do not realize is that the belief in progress in history is itself based on Jewish-Christian understanding of history where is seen the progressive revelation of the Old and New Testaments respectively. Greeks and Romans never would have envisaged history in this way, but the moderns do - precisely because of the Judeo-Christian worldview is still part and parcel of their whole entire outlook even though it has all been secularized. In other words, the belief in progress is, in fact, a Judeo-Christian heresy of the modern age.

But what if the society is actually dumbing down?

“Dumbing Down” ... Sort of like deciding that one can worship stones in the high places and frolic in the groves yet still be OK with Yahweh? It’s happened before and the resulting payback was not good.

The recent discoveries i Jourdan will blow them out of the water when they are fully found and translated. I can take any text and read it wrong for my own motives. Look at the different translations of the Constitution.

Correct, for a non-Biblical example, see Troy. It was considered a myth, then they found it...
