Rowdy Cinco de Mayo night in San Jose, one stabbed

It was shaping up to be another rowdy Cinco de Mayo in San Jose late Thursday, as police and emergency crews were busy breaking up crowds, picking up the glass from shattered windows and treating people who had been beaten up and even stabbed.

As of 11 p.m., one person had walked into Regional Medical Center after being stabbed in the festivities and several other people had suffered more minor injuries, Assistant Police Chief Diane Urban said.

"Many fights, we've had multiple fights along Santa Clara Street," she said "And it's busy."

The crowds had also knocked out windows of businesses along Alum Rock Avenue and 33rd Street. More groups had gathered and gotten into ruckuses at King and Story roads.

"The crowds that came in are people who are definitely not here to (patronize) businesses, they are here to cruise and wreak havoc," Urban said. "They're not here to frequent our downtown clubs and share in the fun."

No mass arrests had been made as of 11 p.m., but Urban warned the mayhem could intensify as the night wore on.

But San Jose police had prepared for trouble anyway with a nighttime clearance of Santa Clara Street, the dispatching of 100-plus special-operations officers and the implementation of pedestrian diversions in case things got too crowded and dangerous.

"We won't tolerate any nonsense," she added.

11pm news showed cars being rocked by in the street.. they arrested a number of these idiots.. like that helps the local business owners much after the fact.

That place had more tattoos on the folks gathered there than an INK Convention.

...after being stabbed in the festivities...

If you've ever been stabbed in the festivities, you know how painful that was.

Really odd:

I didn't even realize it was Puebla's anniversary.

First time since I've lived here, 20 years and some, that I didn't see a single mexican flag...not even the extended family across the street.

(Or maybe they were all over the place and I've just tuned it entirely out...still odd, scary but odd.)

apparently The police were asked to rein it in by downtown businesses and lighten up activities after their sales dropped.. the police were also passively patroling&monitoring and such of the restless yout’s, the rowdies moved back to east san jose.. it’s like they never left.. more tattoos than a miley cyrus concert.. I haven’t seen arrest totes yet,, too bad the places got whacked after all the work to fix the place up..

A truly great time to commit a crime in SJ is during Cinco de Mayo festival celebrations. All the cops are diverted to the scenes of fights, typically at the intersection of King and Story. This is where low riders hang out. They are busy speeding up and down the streets, blaring music out of amped radios, flying Mexican flags out of their windows, getting drunk, and beating each other up, or beating up innocent bystanders. If you are a criminal committing a crime you are in luck, because the police typically won’t show up for 30 minutes or more outside of the “celebration” areas...

Si se puede...
