A three-inch lizard that thrives in desert conditions could shut down oil and gas operations in portions of Southeast New Mexico and in West Texas, including the state's top two oil producing counties.
Called the Dunes Sagebrush Lizard, it is being considered for inclusion on the federal Endangered Species listing by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. A public rally to oppose this move is being sponsored by the Permian Basin Petroleum Association on Tuesday, April 26 at Midland Center beginning at 5 p.m. Congressman Mike Conaway will speak, as will Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson; other public officials have been invited.
"We are very concerned about the Fish and Wildlife Service listing," said Ben Shepperd, president of the PBPA, noting the service also has proposed listing the Lesser Prairie Chicken next year. "The wolf at the door is the lizard; we're concerned listing it would shut down drilling activity for a minimum of two years and as many as five years while the service determines what habitat is needed for the lizard. That means no drilling, no seismic surveys, no roads built, no electric lines."

The desert smelt.
Team Obama’s plan to destroy the economy continues . . . .
I’m sure OPEC and Russia are loving everything Obama does. He seems to be their golden goose.
These humans don’t even have the common sense that God gave that little lizard.
Texas is DONE with America if they try to pull that stunt, as far as I’m concerned.
We’ll give back our share of money in the Social Security Lockbox (LOL), in exchange for them taking over our share of the national debt.
“while the service determines what habitat is needed for the lizard”
Odds are that they’ll wander off by themselves and eventually stop when they find a new Happy Place.
Stupid EPA.
Screw the oil companies. They’re only out to rape and pillage the animals and the environment. They already have enough money. /s
If Texas leaves the union, I am moving there to go with them
Is this code for Barry’s private parts?
Utter stupidity. Obviously, the lizards are living there now, with the oil wells, and have been doing so for a long time.
I notice that all of the environmentalists who scream bloody murder about all the environmental damage from the oil wells in the US or just off-shore aren’t all that concerned about the environmental damage caused in the Middle East, or in the oceans as a result of oil spills from shipping.
Well, be sure to get here before we leave, otherwise you’ll need a visa...and you know how long that can take.
“a minimum of two years and as many as five years while the service determines what habitat is needed for the lizard”
Ship ‘em all to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It’s obviously a commie lizard.
Obama really has it in for Texas. Saying that they are going to take over refinery regulations, denying them disaster funds for Tornado stricken counties, refusing to grant offshore oil permits, and now this.

The Enviro-Nazis (aka - the Far Left Socialist/One World Government proponents) are doing all they can to absolutely destroy this country any way they can. And the political appointees of yet another rogue Federal bureaucracy are falling in line with a Nazi-like goose step.
There is a Steve Vaus song that comes to mind:

A thought... How much does the Federal Government receive in taxes, leases, and other revenues FROM the state of Texas? Seems that a law in the statehouse that makes it illegal for citizens to pay Federal taxes would be in order... For that matter - I would love to see Texas withdraw from the union.
Just wait until the EPA discovers the Horny Toad. That will be the end for oil and gas drilling in the Permian basin.

I can’t wait until this thread is gone off Free Republic. It is alarmist. If you have been following the issue then you will know that the Oil Companies, The Fish and Wildlife, and the local communities have already gotten together and implemented policies to protect the lizard while still drilling.
