How high is the nest? About 80 feet. How big is the nest? 5-6 feet across, about the same deep; it weighs about 1½ tons. What is the history of this pair? They have been together since the winter of 2007-2008. Her markings at that time indicated that she was about 4 years old. They successfully hatched and fledged 2 eaglets in 2008, then 3 in 2009, and 3 more in 2010. Millions of nature enthusiasts from around the world are watching the nest of two northeast Iowa raptors via an “eagle cam” that has become an Internet sensation.

I've been watching these eaglets since before they were hatched, it's addicting. There was another pair in Virgina that just lost the mother to an airplane. They had to take the three babies to a wildlife center to finish raising them. They didn't think they would survive with just dad. It was sad.

Wonderful to see. I was following the great eagle family at the Norfolk Botanical Garden in Virginia. It was a true lesson in life to see those parents nurture the 3 eaglets.

Last tuesday, the mother died in a collision with a USAir plane. The father barely escaped the same fate. The 3 eaglets have now been relocated to the Wildlife Center of Virginia to be released into the wild in August.

The last video of dad coming to the nest with a fish and finding it empty was heartbreaking.

It has affected people from all over the world, we are still too sad. Years ago the dad in Iowa lost his mate but then he found this present one. Hope their eaglets will live a long and healthy life.

There was a great webcam of Kent eagles nesting, but the nest was nearly destroyed by high winds over the winter a few years ago and I don’t believe the birds have been back to rebuild it.

They’re magnificent creatures.

Now if eagles aren’t your thing there's a great little hummingbird named Phoebe that just hatched one egg yesterday and the other will be hatching anytime. The eggs are the size of a tic-tac they say. http://www.phoebeallens.com/
