The James Bond Chronicles: Best of Films 1-7
Big Hollywood ^ | 04.24.11 | Lawrence Meyers

Having now finished with the first Bond era (Sean + George), it’s time to recap the “Best Of.” The only problem is that I knew I wouldn’t be able to rank the Bond films in the aggregate. They are all so disparate that it’s like trying to compare seven different types of fruit. Perhaps, by the time I finish the series, it will be easier. However, through the first seven flicks, there is just no clear ranking to me.

Dr. No. I worked on a project last year in Great Inagua. Where the famous Dr. No lived in the movie. It was called Crab Cay.

A little too much obsession with Mr Wint & Mr Kidd.

I grant that they were groundbreaking and intriguing characters (gay without throwing it in your face), but Oddjob is a far better foe.

We watched “Thunderball” the other night. The girl was very beautiful.

Best line:

Bond: Do you expect me to talk?
Goldfinger: No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!

‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’ is my favorite...bar none. Barry’s theme brings it all home...

I liked From Russia With Love because that movie follows the storytelling style of Ian Fleming's original novels the closest.

Thunder ball, Goldfinger - the only Bond films that matter. The underwater spear fight in T-Ball always fascinated me.

No argument there...

Up until the other day, I had never seen any of the Bond movies with Pierce Brosnan. Then I saw “Die Another Day.” What an absolutely horrible movie, in just about every possible way. Pierce Brosnan was a terrible Bond. The only upside was Halle Berry, who can’t act very well but is very pleasing to look at.

Thunderball was the best book ( I read it in 1965, along with all of the others....Freshman in college) Movie came out and it was a mind-blower for it's time, so I vote for Thunderball.

I'd go with Thunderball. The scene where the Vulcan bomber hits the water always amazes me...

Hmmm... I'll have to get back to this thread tonite.

Goldfinger was the classic just because of Honor Blackman, who incidentally was the oldest actress to play the lead part in a Bond Movie.

Nothing against Ursula Andress or Jill St. John, mind you.

GOLDFINGER of course. Best title song, and Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore.
