It’s a great post, and thanks for converting it into a readable form there, Revel, but it’s tragically undermined by the use of “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” particularly that final verse.

Even the most cursory look at the song will tell you that it’s clearly a hugely anti-war song, pretty much summed up in the line in the very verse that’s quoted:

“And the young people ask, “What are they marching for?”
And I ask myself the same question”

The song is about a man who’s seen the folly and futility of war and is honestly GLAD that there aren’t new veterans to join the old ones who march. Yes, the ANZACS did Australia proud at Gallipoli, yes Nationalism is good, but war - according to the narrator of “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” is a futile and wasteful effort that serves no purpose.

And finally, the last line of the verse as quoted “But we can change all that if we really want to” isn’t part of the song! I don’t know where he got that line, but if anyone’s singing that they’re singing the song wrong - not to mention screwing up the rhythm.

Great post, just delete the verse from the song, it seriously undermines a great deal of the point.

*why go back to something that happened years ago ?

*why not let the president get on with his job ?

*isn’t health care more important than whitewater ?

all the above are the cliches, the counter attacks, the whitehouse is using to take the heat off the president and his wife

why is whitewater important ? let me ask you a question—

what makes you think the presidents plan will improve health care in america?

what makes you think it will work ?

how many of you have read the 1342 pages of his plan ?

not many, only karl marx could understand it

so, let me ask you, what makes you think the clinton health care plan will work ?

if you haven’t read it, i contend the only reason you think it will work is because clinton said it would !

hillary said she did her own commodity trading, now we know that somebody else did. first there were margin calls, now there weren’t margin calls. then she said she stopped trading in the cattle futures before chelsea was born because it was too nerve racking, but the latest papers released reveal that she was still trading well after the of chelsea birth.

during the president last town meeting, he stated that all taxes were paid on all profits. now we learn there is the little matter of 6,000 dollars of profit (14,000 dollars with interest) that was overlooked.

the matter of the 20,000 dollar loan given to his mother that they claimed as interest payments on whitewater. only remembered after reading about it in his poor late mothers book !

this massaging of the truth, these lies, they didn’t occur years ago folks, they are happening right now, yesterday, today, and there will be more tomorrow.

why, why is whitewater important ? i’ll tell you why....

you are betting your families health on the presidents character

you’re betting your freedom
