1861 - Colonel Robert E. Lee resigned from the U.S. Army. Two days earlier he had been offered command of the Union army.
If the South had win we would be watching this current nightmare from afar instead of living it. That is what galls me.
win=won
Which most of you revisionist/yankee mythologists find quite unsettling....
;-)
In wars, might does not make right. But might wins wars.
You’re contradicting yourself.
How so? You are trying to get me to admit that every winner of every war was “right.” We know that to not be the case. Over history, there have been many times when the victor was the tyrant.
YOU said might makes right, I did not. I said that the victors are able to write the history. And they have.
You want to make Lee out to be a heroic figure. Some sort of Uber Leader that had all the right answers.
I feel he is a masterful tactician. Thats about it.
In the end, had he remained loyal to the country that trained him, fed him, and clothed he and his family, the war would have been over a lot faster, and thousands would have lived on both sides.
Instead, he rebelled against his country and his oath, sworn before God.
What's the difference?

First of all, try reading Ike's words slowly and carefully:
Now, try to remember that the Founders were suspicious of an all powerful central government. That's the reason the Constitution was written specifically to LIMIT the power of the fed. Now, you may also recollect that the 10th Amendment was included to ensure state sovereignty and that in the days of the Founders and in the days of Lee citizens of a state were loyal to their state first and the union second.
But yet, you would ask Lee to turn his back on his family and neighbors and march at the front of a bunch of yankee rabble to lead an invasion of his own home!
Could you do such a thing?
