OTTAWA - Home Depot Canada is considering policy changes after a greeter lost part of her nose when she tried to pet a customer's pet Shih Tzu dog in suburban Ottawa.
Greeter Anne Riel, 39, told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. the little dog was in a shopping cart being pushed by its unidentified 74-year-old owner Friday when the dog bit her.
"No sooner had I slightly bent down [when] the dog bit my nose with its entire mouth," Riel said.
A small piece of her nose is missing after emergency plastic surgery and Riel will need more procedures, the report said.
The owner of the dog tried to leave, but was stopped by paramedics. City officials said they expect to charge the owner. The maximum fine is $600 and the court could also order the dog to be euthanized, the CBC said.
"Please, please understand it's not only the pit bulls and German shepherds and the big dogs that are nasty," Riel said. "The small dogs can be just as nasty and that's what's deceiving."
She said she is considering suing the dog's owner.
Meanwhile, Home Depot said while it has signs up saying only service dogs for the handicapped are allowed in the stores, the policy hasn't been strictly enforced and that is being reviewed at head office.
Oh, it’s a Shih Tzu? I thought they said it was a dog.
Feel bad for the greeter.....Not to stick up for the dog or owner...But it’s best to usually ask if the dog is friendly and let the dog sniff your hand before sticking your face right up to their nose......
Small dogs bite a lot more than big dogs on balance. It’s just with a small dog, you generally get a relatively minor injury. But not always.
Never, ever, ever pet a strange dog if the owner is not in control of it, even if the owner says it’s fine.
And never, ever, ever put your face near a dog that does not trust you, you will get your nose bitten.
It’s not who hit it but who bit it.
I saw a lawyer in New Orleans blow in the face of cocker spaniel and be warned not to do it. Result: Seven stitches in his upper lip. Priceless.
Clouseau: Does your dog bite?
Hotel Clerk: No.
Clouseau: [bowing down to pet the dog] Nice doggie.
[Dog barks and bites Clouseau in the hand]
Clouseau: I thought you said your dog did not bite!
Hotel Clerk: That is not my dog.
Putting your face nose to nose with a strange dog is stupid. I mean....even dogs know to sniff the other end first!
O hai! I nom your nose. Om nom nom nom nom...
Why people have the irrepressible need to bring their dog into a home improvement store is beyond me ... and that the store management allows it is even more strange, what with all the customers, mobile equipment and material being moved around.
I guess the dog won by a nose!
dumb broad. If that face got shoved into mine, I'd bite in fright too!.
Stupid woman. A good lawyer could get this dog off. And, hey, WalMart, don't you teach your greeters: Don't stick your stupid face into the face of a strange dog!”
Kill the dog. Such a little piece of crap serves absolutely no useful purpose other than yapping and being a complete spaz.

>> the dog bit my nose with its entire mouth
Hey, great big nose, little bitty mouth, of COURSE it had to use the entire thing. What did she expect?
They don't allow dogs in their stores.......
I agree. If it’s not a guide dog, it has no business being in the store.
