Oh, try this too, take an air can that you usually use to blow out the inside of a computer tower with, and blow out the dust inside the detector. Sometimes dust inside the things can do that as well.
Agreed
Haven’t a clue. Will have to check that out.
Are you in Massachusetts? I thought only state workers got Patriots' Day off. With Aunt Zeituni Onyango in Columbia Point, her nephew in the White House and all the Marathoners, I'm surprised there's anyone still in Kenya.
Maybe you can get the fine manual knowing teh model no?
Try listening to AM between stations (if you have a radio with an analog tuner). You might get a broadcast signal that way, and that would narrow things down.
Well, I hear ya there. I have one detector in my house that does the same damn thing. Of course its in the master bedroom.... I admit it, I gave up on the damn thing and took it down. We have a LOT of detectors in this house (9) and my house isn’t that big.... that door is never shut.. so yea... small risk, but mine was going off at 1:30 am. After a week I gave up.
“But what about toenail fungus? Thats a really tough nut to crack!”
AFTER I had toenails ripped out, I was told soaking in white vinegar will kill nail fungus. Once they grow back, maybe I’ll remember to report back...
Deep in outer space a pulsar is spinning and throwing off huge amounts of radiation that travels billions and trillions of miles to earth shooting through all matter.
I don’t know why your detector goes off.
Agreed
Could be, even if it is the same time every day.
Years ago when I was on Titan II Missile Combat Crew at our home complex, we would get a massive drop in voltage on the Commercial Power meter followed by a big spike at the same time every day.
Never found out why as we were out in the middle of nowhere Kansas but we figured it was something in the town about seven miles away.
I worked for a company that had the same problem and it turned out to be a nearby plating plant. The voltage would drop when they turned on some of their machinery at the same time very day: Speadsheets were lost and VCRs were reset to 12:00.
Took us a while to figure it out.
Amputate.
smoke detectors and CO detectors have a life span of 5-7 years. I’d bet its telling you its time to be replaced
It is malfunctioning. Replace it ASAP. It is basically a simple electronics board, and these things happen. Do not under any circumstance try to fix it, as smoke detectors usually have some toxic components that do not respond well to tampering.
Make sure your grow lights are on a seperate circuit.
The point is that the problem may be exterior to your home. It may be entering on the power line from a common shared transformer in the neighborhood. Putting an RFI filter on the power input to your own device can also shield it from external interference. Most home detectors are actually AC powered with a battery backup.
Thanks, Sweety Pie.
Oh, and by the way, do you know how to clean windows??
And you're charismatic!
Check the model number to see if your smoke detectors are wireless interconnected, meaning that if one goes off the all do. If you have upper sleeping rooms the IBC says you have to have one in each sleeping room and one outside in the corridor. Maybe you are getting radio interference from the police/fire dept.
Makes me one up on you.
Thanks.
I appreciate your desire to be helpful.
But I said maybe I'd seek FR advice.
I've been here off and on since shortly after the site's inception in '96, (had a few different screen names over the years).
If there's one thing I've learned in 15 years it's that there is no way I would seek advice here on anything in my personal life through a "vanity".
I've witnessed countless posters get ravaged...often by the those who were the regulars at the time...for vanities that at least made an effort to deal with political/social issues.
Topics far more generally relevant than home repairs have been seen as open invitations for piling on countless times.
Mears thought I was "mean spirited"? That was nothing more than mild sarcasm comparatively speaking.
In fact, I've been so turned off numerous times by the eat-your-own meanness to posters who were actually attempting to use the site for what it's intended for to the point I haven't visited the site for months.
I've learned to ignore posts that aren't of interest to me for the most part, or at least to resist the impulse to take jabs, but now and then I can't resist.
Like many posters I'm sure, I'm only giving partial attention most of the time, as I'm busy with other things at the same time. Sometimes I just go ahead a "think out loud" on the keyboard.
I can't say I'm proud of getting a little evil pleasure at other posters' expense occasionally, but compared to some of what I've witnessed here I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, either.
FRegards.
