There’s nothing to suggest he didn’t see the entire film.

Personal morality disagreements aside, Rand and Conservatives have the same desire of getting the government out of people’s personal lives.

They do. And I have no problem with that part of her premise.

But Rand goes further and says that we as individuals have no moral duty to anyone but ourselves. Conservatives recognize that we, in the real world, live among others and have reciprocal moral duties to one another.

Just because the government shouldn't be doing something, does not mean it shouldn't be done.

You can be a conservative or you can be an objectivist - but you can't be both.

Incorrect. I have married the two political belief systems.

I call it 'Conjectivism'.

Sorry, you can't take credit as it has already been thought of.

“I call it ‘Conjectivism’”

is that similar to conjunctivitis, but the redness of the eye is from something else ?

Atlas Shrugged (1 star)

Well, then, I'll probably enjoy it. There have been many movies he rated low that we've thoroughly enjoyed and a number he's rated high that just plain sucked.

“Just because the government shouldn’t be doing something, does not mean it shouldn’t be done.”

I see that we are closer than what I was originally suspecting. Thanks for this clarification. That said, you were looking for the reasoning that many Conservatives were drawn to Rand and I believe it is simply due to the fact that politically they are on the same page.

I don’t agree with many of her personal beliefs, yet I do wholeheartedly agree with her political belief. On each, it looks like we agree. For each, it looks like we are both in agreement that we should be free to make our own choice.

Is that not the central plank of Conservatism?

the fact some of the details are wrong seems to be a good clue.

then again this is about movies HE likes not the public. A good conservtive happy ending movie would make his leftist brain overload.

It is. That is why I am a conservative. And, my problem with Rand is not with her political stance, it's with her vacuous philosophy.

Apparently the thought police got to Roger Ebert - the movie is fabulous - Ebert can't understand that the mediocrity in American in the movie has caused the VERY VERY wealthy, of whom there still are some, to be shown as way over the top compared to the constant scenes of the working class poor on the streets. They did a fabulous job of constantly showing that despite the claims of the government to make everyone equal, it doesn't work - the rich still live a very indulgent lifestyle while the poor or working class have been forced out of jobs due to government involvement.

Maybe, someday, Ebert will be able to grasp the meaning of this novel/movie.

I think Ebert also missed the part where they said gasoline ws $34 a gallon - it made airline travel almost nonexistant except for the ultra rich

I have just returned from seeing Atlas Shrugged. Do not be misled by people who's mission it is to destroy this movie.

Instead, consider every superlative you can think of: Fantastic, incredible. amazing, wonderful, stunning...barely describes it. I was in tears more than once because it resonated so strongly. The screen-characters are perfect representations of the book-characters. When I first saw Dagney, OMG! My heart skipped a beat! I'm in love.

Go see this movie. You will want to see it over and over. It is amazing.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the Italian version of “We The Living”, a fine period film, and true to Rand’s emotional view, imo.

What makes you think he’s wrong? It’s getting pretty bad reviews.

That it is:

Rotten Tomatoes

Metacritic
