Around 12:45 a.m. on Thursday April 14, 2011 (in the wee hours today), my husband and I awoke to hear major (military) jet rumblings over D.C. or nearby. It reminded us of the strange-sounding reverberations we hear at the annual air show. It came in two subsequent periods. The first one lasted probably no more than 3-5 minutes. I'm a bad judge of how long it lasted when I can't see a clock (after I initially checked the time) and when it is a startling event. Anyway, it was a significant period, and not just a flyover -- which we get a lot here in Arlington, by the way.
I looked online when I woke up this morning for any reports, but have not seen anything. I did find where there had been a NORAD jet scramble last Friday, though, from a Washington Examiner reporter.
Does anyone know what happened?
Getting ready to rumble with The Sharks?
“...Check the control tower records...”
That’s if no one is asleep in the tower. There’s been a lot of that lately.
There have been a lot of strange goings on. Up here in central New York, there have been large “convoys” of cargo planes going over in middle of the night, fighter jets at odd hours (there aren’t supposed to be any, only drones in our area) etc. We have been here 15 years and something definately different going on. On the way to work, I know a convoy had been down the state route because there was a tank broken down by the side of the road. It was a rather funny “picture”, one soldier was looking at the front, another was standing behind it using his cell phone. Other than that they were all alone. Finally one TV station had to post that a giant cargo plane (one of the biggest- forgot the model) had landed at our airport as part of a HUGE emergency response drill - just in case anyone saw THAT one that passed during daylight hours. It was full of military personnel. Never heard a dang thing more about it. I guess it wasn’t such a large drill that it needed any more than one sentence of coverage.
So, if there is an attack when it's raining, nobody's handled it in drill...dumb.
Reporters were too busy having sex with Whitehouse and Congressional staffers to care about reporting the event.
They’re scrambling jets? I know the Democrats want to cut the defense budget, but I draw the line on poor people eating jets.
Occasionally as part of ongoing training, night time sorties are scheduled. These can be “no notice” alerts or simply missions pre planned and known in advance by the crews.
Here you can tell if you see all the KC135s taking off in 20 sec intervals. They are from the 171st going to meet the BUFFs on their way to the failsafe points.
Same if you are at Fairchild AFB and you see a bunch of B52s rolling out at the same time.
