Our Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time poll certainly caused some fierce debate amongst guitarists
and that was just in our office. Choosing the 'greatest' guitar solo is obviously subjective in the extreme. But Guitarist had other motivations too we were eager to see how many modern solos have impressed you all in the thirteen years since our last solo poll. The results were suprising. After asking for your nominations, we took the 20 most popular and asked for you vote on which your though was most deserving here and at MusicRadar. You voted in your thousands, fanbases were motivated and old favourites suffered.
Aint nuffin shakin but the leaves on the trees....
Sorry, I didn’t see the poll about this but here’s a kick*ss song by the Outlaws.
Green Grass & High Tides

One of THE BEST Guitar solos ever. If this doesn’t get your heart beating....well you’re dead.
Doc Watson is a fantastic player, but Solos?
Funkadelics Maggot Brain has to be one
and also the one from Pink Floyd: “Dark Side of the Moon”
or how about Duane Allman’s solo on Layla, oh yes it was Duane Allman
Echoes... Classic Floyd
OK, you got me. But He’s a great one no doubt. I could listen to the man flat pic all day.
Mark Tremonti (Creed/Alter Bridge) is a truly talented guitarist, but I’m sorry. He has done nothing THAT worthy to be the top gun on the list.
Steve Vai, one of Tremonti’s teachers only pulled no. 8 with “For the love of God” Come on!!! Who made this list?
If you never heard it, go here and be seriously impressed.

Well Frank Zappa’s lead guitar on the song ‘Willie the Pimp’ from the Hot Rats album is not too shabby either although not well known.
Also like Fogarty’s lead on ‘Heard it through the grapevine’ (the long version) by CCC.
NOW y'done it ... that thing will run through my head all night until I click something else and replace it.
Nice thread.
oh oh I have another!
Motor City Mad House Ted Nugent
Robin Trower: Bridge of Sighs
Frank Zappa: Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar
Alvin Lee: I’m Going Home
Echoes is great music...I have always been a fan of the riff from “mother” as well
Eric Johnson doing the Star Spangled Banner.. At an MTV celebrity ballgame; early 90s... It is on Youtube; It is WORTH checking out. Amazing!!
Echoes is one of my favorite songs.. The beats and sounds in that song are incredible. If I was a pot head that would be one song I would listen to over and over again. Gilmores voice is awesome along with the guitar..
Claptons second lead on Crossroads from Wheels of Fire is the single greatest guitar lead ever recorded and I’m not responding to or reading anything from anyone who disagrees
Hah!
I saw him do that solo w the lasers and bows ‘n everything
How about ‘Voodoo Child’ by Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn. Can’t miss with either one.
Clapton and Jack Bruce were the dynamic duo. I still marvel at their lengthy jam sessions when they were in Cream. They would listen to each other, and when one started a little riff, the other would pick up on it.
