Our Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time poll certainly caused some fierce debate amongst guitarists… and that was just in our office. Choosing the 'greatest' guitar solo is obviously subjective in the extreme. But Guitarist had other motivations too – we were eager to see how many modern solos have impressed you all in the thirteen years since our last solo poll. The results were suprising. After asking for your nominations, we took the 20 most popular and asked for you vote on which your though was most deserving here and at MusicRadar. You voted in your thousands, fanbases were motivated and old favourites suffered.
I’ve seen SYL twice. Great band. Incredible albums. He also produced Stuck Mojo’s “Pigwalk.”
Lynch is great. Lynch Mob’s “Wicked Sensation” is in my disc changer right now.

Ack! Maybe so, but give Martin Barre his due! He's toiled away for 40+ years w Ian Anderson and rarely gets noticed.

For a live version, I prefer the one on How The West Was Won. But both are much too long for my tastes.

As far as entire tracks go, my personal fave is “Europa.” As for best Santana solo, check him out trading licks with Neal Schon in “No One To Depend On” (Carlos plays the second solo).
Would have been Gary Rossington, I’d reckon. Allen Collins and Steve Gaines are both gone, and Ed King is retired from the biz. Of those four, Gaines is my favorite, but most of the Skynyrd solos I can play well are Rossington’s.
And I don’t count any of the post-crash members. :)
Without Frank Zappa, this list is not even a list, to think that Slash is somehow put in the same league with Hendrix while omitting Zappa is criminal.

Which one? There are three to choose from in that track. :)
I know it’s a predictable choice, but I think the solos in “Time” and “Comfortably Numb” are the most representative of Gilmour’s style. But all three solos in “Dogs” are pretty doggone good.

Incidentally, that line is the only vocal performance by Nick Mason in the band’s entire catalog.
Beck’s Bolero
I always considered both post-Waters Floyd and post-Floyd Waters to be inferior to what the band did while Waters was still on board. And I still remember a Rolling Stone review of Momentary Lapse and Radio KAOS alongside one another that concluded with “together these would have made a nice Dark Side of the Moon.”
I liked his “Cliffs of Dover”
I’ve seen the Echoes/2001 sync on YouTube. The ending of 2001 actually makes sense in this format. :)
