Our Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time poll certainly caused some fierce debate amongst guitarists
and that was just in our office. Choosing the 'greatest' guitar solo is obviously subjective in the extreme. But Guitarist had other motivations too we were eager to see how many modern solos have impressed you all in the thirteen years since our last solo poll. The results were suprising. After asking for your nominations, we took the 20 most popular and asked for you vote on which your though was most deserving here and at MusicRadar. You voted in your thousands, fanbases were motivated and old favourites suffered.
McLaughlin is a god. No mention of Fripp anywhere? I could mention 5 or 6 guitarists that no one has heard of who had better playing this a lot of these so called Top 20.
Best Gilmour solo is on ‘Dogs’ from Animals.
Now that one I remember! Thank you. That is a dynamite song..Didn’t realize it was Santana ... I know bad on me.
One of these days,,im going to cut you into little pieces,,,
thats the line your wondering about.
Wow, Kirk Hammett should have been on top!
Roy Buchanan didn’t even get an honorable mention.
Stevie Ray Vaughn the best ever!
Jeff Beck - “Freeway Jam”
Impossible now because Rick Wright (founding member) died. Gilmour does not like Roger. Gilmour said that Rog destroyed Wright and Nick Mason’s confidence by constant badgering. They had to hire back up players for their post Waters tours. Waters really singled out Rick Wright for abuse as Rick was a kind soul.
I have seen Roy at least a dozen times.
Shook his hand.
What a player.
Best unknown/unrecognized solo.....
Intro to Sweet Jane on Lou Reed’s, Rock n’ Roll Animal album.
Really - crappy list!!! Here’s an oldie for you - another of my friends.....Link Wray’s Rumble or Rawhide.. :)
Wow that’s pretty brutal. Thank you I have wondered about that for more than....well you know when it came out right? lol (course I was only 3 at the time it was released :)
Roy’s Blues! Excellent.
Angus Young belongs on this list somewhere as well. The guitar solos from She’s Got The Jack are some of the best blues ever. John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry might deserve a mention here as well.
Jeff Beck in “Blow Up” being very cool while Jimmy Page looks like a wanker.
Great English cinema being done by an Italian director. LOL!

Hate hearing stuff like that. I didn’t know all the details and certainly didn’t realize about Wright. Need to catch up on my ‘rock history’.
Quite a legacy left behind though.
You just cant do these lists justice.
There are to many greats!
